Re: How quiet is the current OEM Intel cooler (i7 4770K)?
Thanks, Luca. I think I'll probably get a new cooler just to avoid any risk of failure - I can't afford to have this cooler come loose if someone kicks the computer ;) I see the last gen Cooler Master, the Hyper T4 (appears nearly the same as the 212, with some reports that it was actually a better ...

Bah, Seasonic doesn't make a 360W with modular cables, too bad!RDaneel wrote: Maybe I'll check out a 300W Seasonic.

Re: If price is equal, buy Corsair RM450 or RM550?
Thanks. I know this is probably all overkill... I'd get a smaller Corsair if they made it. Maybe I'll check out a 300W Seasonic.

Re: How quiet is the current OEM Intel cooler (i7 4770K)?
That stinks. My Ninja is 4 years old, so I'm guessing it isn't compatible with the newer sockets, but I'll try to figure it out.
Otherwise, I guess the question is how much I'll have to spend to get something that will work well with a quiet Nexus 120mm.
Thanks!

How quiet is the current OEM Intel cooler (i7 4770K)?
I'm trying to keep costs down for my system rebuild, and am wondering if I can (gulp) stick with the OEM cooler. I have used Scythe Ninja coolers on my last couple builds, but chips are a lot more efficient than they were the last time I went through this exercise. Does the OEM cooler work well enou...

If price is equal, buy Corsair RM450 or RM550?
Thanks in advance for any advice. Figured I would ask the experts before hitting "checkout." I am doing a midrange build, primarily for Photoshop use. I don't upgrade much anymore (4+ years since my last revamp), so I'm going with an i7 4770K, Z87-based mobo, and GeForce 750 TI card. I think I can r...

I'm excited about the 5750 - just ordered one for my Win 7 box. Plenty of power for 1920x1200 gaming at normal human FPS (30+) at least for the next year or two. Plus, the idle power consumption is amazing. With a micro-ATX mobo and an i7 860, I should have idle power consumption down to 75W or so, ...

Wow, 18W idle power consumption? That's pretty impressive. I might be able to get my total system idle consumption down to below 80w, that would be cool As for the 5750 vs. 5770 differences, it seems like not much in terms of performance. I wonder how the actual manufacturers will position them in t...

1) power draw depends linearly on number of transistors (this is what you meant I guess) 2) power draw decreases with process shrink (for complex reasons) The net effect of both a process shrink and increase in the amount of transistors is hard to estimate so just wait for the reviews. Yes, that is...

I'm very happy that ATI (unlike nVidia with the new GT300 parts) will be making a smaller chip on a smaller process. My WAG is that the GT300 will run hot. Yeah at first I was also very disappointed with the GT300. But if you read later on in the Anandtech article, the actual physical die size is a...

Anyway, this release is great, especially to see the idle power consumption. Anandtech's testing on a high end i7 920 setup is still drawing abo...

Thanks, angel, it helps to know I'm not missing anything too obvious. I appreciate the newegg links. I'm going to try the stock fan for the initial build and see what I think. They're using the onboard graphics (yech), so there really won't be many fans running, at least until I get them to upgrade ...

Good <$30 quiet C2D cooler for stock system?
I absolutely love my Ninja rev. B for my OC'd E6600 rig, but I could use some advice on a lower end cooler for my family's computer. I have a retail box E6300 that I'm going to use, but know that I can get a quieter cooler. No overclocking, so this is an easy chip to cool. What I don't know for sure...

I'm also going with the GTO - still very good performance for the watt, and maybe I'll even stick with the stock cooler instead of a VF900, who knows... Anyway, I HIGHLY doubt that these are RMA'd cards - it would be a violation of unfair trade practice law to sell a card that is a return as new. EV...

WD Caviar SE16 - 5000YS vs. 5000KS models?
Sorry - YS and KS are too short to search!
Can anyone explain the difference (other than $30) between these drives? I want the silence of the KS model reviewed by SPCR, but the YS is spec'd the same is costs less. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

That's the tough call, isn't it? Go for a 7900GS with some overclocking or a X1950 (both using a VF900)... I don't want to sacrifice too much performance, but I also don't want to have to run all my fans faster to exhaust that many watts of difference. Darn ATI for not paying any attention to power ...

Apparently the new 7900GS blows away the X1800 GTO, check out the HardOCP review. It should be fairly tolerable with the temperature controlled stock fan, and runs $200. If you really want quiet, spend $40 on a Zalman VG900 cooler and run it at 5V or so... I may go this route until DX10 parts are re...

I had the same issue for my upcoming Conroe build, and I went with the 380. if you look at the SPCR Recommended page for PSUs, there is a note for the S12 430 model that says, essentially, the 380 wasn't tested, but is used at SPCR all the time, and it sounds and feels like the 430. I figured the 38...

I don't have a system set up in my Solo yet, so this is premature, but I did cut out one of the 92mm intakes and the 120 exhaust with the dremel over the weekend. Tin snips would be very easy, but I already have a dremel and plenty of cut off wheels, so... The steel is very easy to cut, took about 2...
