Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise

then you are in luck. I've done that w/ HP. I got a PC that for 2.5+ yr., they never fix a certain problem. Just a few mth. prior to warranty expire, that certain problem got worse. So because the PC is still under warranty and they can't fix it, I got a new PC -- newer model. So I would be curious...

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise

Interestingly enough, at work my Dell desktop has the same problem. After Dell replaced mobo, everything was fine for 3-4 months and then it started doing that again. Get the REV of that motherboard, call Dell for a new REV. (Revision) Dell & HP uses the same suppliers on power supply in China, the...

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise

I have fixed a rather tough coil whine problem on my end. I use the HP Z600. Ea. time I turn off the PC, there is alow pitch hump, non stop, unless I pull the power cord off the PC, turn off makes no difference. So we replace the power supply, in the end, a total of 3 times, and there is no differe...

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 launches

I was considering buying it because my current case is a NZXT and there is some vibration that is driving me insane since I bought it like 2 years ago. The fan noises are also annoying. But then I've read here the R4 has no HD activity LED. WHAT where they thinking? :? A LED HD activity is essentia...

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise

Since my last post I finished building my new system(http://pcpartpicker.com/b/zgO) and I bought FSP Group AURUM 92+ Series PT-550M(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104169). This is as "premium" as they get. :) So far I didn't hear any electrical noises in any situation I put...

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 launches

What about an aftermarket hard drive suspension system such as the Sharkoon Vibefixer? http://www.sharkoon.com/?q=en/node/915 Or just simply a plain thick knitting string. It's stretchy enough to absorb vibrations, yet strong enough to stretch out and dry up like are regular rubber band would. Ali-...

Re: Quiet UPS ?

What do you mean about the waveform, btw? Some computer PSU/other devices can work with both 120V and 230V AC voltage. Others have that small slide-switch on the back where you select 120 or 230. The ones with the switch are Passive PFC types. W/o the switch are Active PFC. You can ready sciency de...

PSU reviews database

While searching around for reviews of some PSUs I stumbled upon this site http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page541.htm It has a very large and pretty up-to-date list of PSUs from a lot of manufactures. Where available they also link to pre/reviews from a bunch of different hardware sites(...

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise

According to OP blog's profile, he's in Poland, which if I'm not mistaken uses 230V AC.
Could it be that higher voltage AC causes more PSUs to buzz? Or maybe APFC PSUs are more likely to buzz?

Re: Seasonic Platinum Fanless 520W PSU

So if we ignore the annoyance factor of those noises, could they indicate a short/mid/long term electrical problems? I'm not an electrician(I just play one in minecraft), but I wonder if those noises could be coming from, for lack of a better word...'micro-sparks' on/in some components? That noise t...

Re: 7850 vs. 7870

Sorry if I'm bumping too old of an thread, but with recent price drops 7870ghz can be bought for $180($200-$20MIR), they are looking like a much better deal vs 7850 or nvidia660/660ti. However, I'm a bit confused about power requirements for these cards. Many reviews mention that these cards have TP...

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 launches

Airflow isn't bad with the upper cage in its normal position so I'd leave it as so except only for situations where you'd want to remove it altogether. I guess "isn't bad" somewhat relative. In normal position side holes are somewhat small. In the rotated position there's virtually no obstruction i...

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 launches

I finally ordered and got this case. It seems like top hdd cage can be rotated 90' to that sleds are in the long way. This improves airflow, but hdd have to be removed TOWARDS the motherboard. :( If I try to put it the other way handles from drive sleds don't fit into the case. And I think I read so...

Connect Power LED cables to HDD LED headers, and you have your HDD LED. :D

Re: Nanoxia Deep Silence 1

You might be right about the HDD LED, but I've always found them to be more trouble than they are worth - especially now that everything is superbright by default. I leave all LEDs disconnected nowadays. For me HDD activity led is extremely useful. If my computer is slow for some reason I can easil...

Re: Nanoxia Deep Silence 1

I do like the hatch top and closed ports, should reduce dust accumulation, and you've still got the option of top venting and front ports should you need them. This is some of the concerns I have with Fractal's R4, which this case seems to address. However, this case is also missing HDD activity le...

Re: Fractal Design Define R4 launches

Silly question, but am I understanding this correctly that the front door has to be open for the front fan to work properly?

Lack of HDD activity led seems disappointing and puzzling.
