Re: Comparison of 3 quiet PSUs – Corsair, Be Quiet, BitFenix
Thanks for sharing your experience. Hope in sometime you PSU desire comeback and you test higher end psu like sea sonic prime, EVGA t2 or be quiet dark pro11, would be interesting to see your thought into if the money spend have any gains on the noise department. Well, since the three units I teste...

Comparison of 3 quiet PSUs – Corsair, Be Quiet, BitFenix
Hi, In 2012, I tried to find a PSU that would at least equal my Corsair HX520 in terms of coil and fan noise. Unfortunately, all of the PSUs I tried back then (I tried five, including some expensive ones) had coil whine. In the end, I stuck with my Corsair HX. Now I've decided to revisit the topic. ...

Re: Bitfenix Whisper Series
I just got a BitFenix Whisper M 550W. I have written a blog post in which I compare it with the Corsair RM650x and the Be Quiet! Pure Power 10 600W. Hopefully, it will help someone reach a decision.

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise
Just a quick update: I've tested another PSU: the Be Quiet! Pure Power L8 530W. Full writeup in my blog post , but here are the highlights: - no electrical noise, except for a faint buzz when gaming (inaudible at > 1 m in a closed case) - quiet fan with good profile (couldn't get it to spin up, even...

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise
While you're not alone in this, not everyone has this problem. There clearly is some sample variance, some people have even had 2 bad ones in a row. I would hope that with the Platinum rated models there may be some improvement. Yeah, people always say "you just got a faulty unit". But I haven't re...

Re: In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise
As the problem was worsened when you plugged the monitor into the same AC circuit, it makes me think the problem is on the AC side and not the fault of the PSUs. Do you have any AC line conditioning, surge suppression, or UPS between the AC circuit and your PC? Do you have faith that the ground (or...

In search of a PSU without coil whine / electrical noise
Hi, I've been looking for a quiet ~550W PSU for my i5 system. I want a nearly-inaudible fan and no electrical noise (whining, buzzing, squealing etc.), except at a close distance (< 1 meter). So far, I have tried four PSUs (Be Quiet! Dark Power, Be Quiet! Straight Power, Seasonic X-Series and Enerma...

Re: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W Power Supply
If you have other PSUs that do emit interferences, then the PC PSU is not to blame. There must not be any to begin with, regardless if you use a Monitor or a water boiler. Often those interferences are amplified by old/non-standard or damaged cabling. Let me just note I never had a buzzing problem ...

Re: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W Power Supply
I have since used Nexus almost exclusively when building (couple Values, several NX5000, now one RX5300), and none of them have buzzed, despite being Bronze certified and almost budget-priced. I think you should replace "despite" with "due to" in your sentence :) It looks like I'm not the only one ...

Re: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W Power Supply
RFI interference and/or bad power factor noise getting back into the mains? The PSU for the Dell monitor may be causing a reaction in the computer PSU via one of those, quite possibly. Thanks. From a quick look at Wikipedia, I understand that the Dell PSU might be distorting the sine wave shape of ...

Re: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W Power Supply
Well, I exchanged the Dark Power Pro 10 650W for the Straight Power E9 580W, which is beQuiet's midrange model. Initially, it seemed that the Straight Power had very little buzzing -- the loudest buzz I was able to generate was audible from a feet away (the Dark Power's buzz was audible from 2 meter...

Re: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W Power Supply
What motherboard are you using? Are you sure it's the PSU and not the motherboard? I've got coil whine from my motherboard with a Pentium G620 on an Asus H61 board with a BQ Straight Power 400W. I've also got coil whine from a Sapphire Radeon 7950 on an Asus Z77 board with an Antec PSU. I guess I s...

Re: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W Power Supply
Mike, Thanks for sharing your perspective on electrical noise. I'm sure all PSUs have some amount of electrical noise, but it seems that nowadays there is a much larger number of units that can be heard from 1-5 meters away. The quietest PSU I have owned is the Corsair HX520W (bought it after readin...

Re: Western Digital Red 3TB & 1TB Hard Drives
Just bought the WD RED 2TB for a new build, following the SPCR recommendation. What a great hard drive. I have purchased several drives recommended by SPCR in the past 7 years or so. The WD RED is, hands down, the quietest mechanical hard drive I have ever had the pleasure of not hearing! It's barel...

Re: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 550W Power Supply
Hello, Long-time reader here. I bought the Dark Power Pro 10 650W after reading Mike's review. The fan was inaudible in my near-silent system, but it buzzed under light and medium loads -- for example, while booting Windows or scrolling the browser window. The buzz was (barely) audible from 2 meters...
