Re: Noctua NH-C14 Dual Fan Top-down CPU Cooler

Would you say the C14 is a better fit for the Fortress FT02 than the D14, or the other way around?

Philips 220SW9F , 2 samples. Quite annoying medium-pitched whine at brightness below ~85%, at its worst at around 30%. Pretty quiet in standby/off. I have to have my ear a few inches away from them to hear it. Getting tired of this... I can't see anyone using their monitors at 100% brightness witho...

Lenovo L220x - dead quiet when on or off. When in energy saving mode, it whines quite a bit after a few hours. High-pitched. Viewsonic vx2255wmb - high-pitched whine when in use. Least noisy at >91% brightness and around 30% or so. Some whine when in energy-saving mode (which is the mode it's in wh...

ESaT: Yeah, sure. That's some added cost though. If I have to buy some additional x-in-x modules later on I'm definitely going for Lian-Li, unless I go for some hotswap backplane thingy, that is; they're definitely nice. the jamppa: I realise this, and I'm definitely not aiming for silence, just "re...

Yep they definitely will. My storage closet might get a bit hot during the summer though, hence why I'd prefer some headroom there as well, but it's not a deal breaker. I'll probably build an array with some 750 GB WDs, plus I have a bunch of Samsung/Seagate 500 GB drives that will act as "scratch" ...

Yeah I've been eyeing the old Stacker for a while but with Cooler Master's pricing here, the Twelve Hundred is a lot more desirable. Thanks for the recommendation. It looks like an okay case, but it's a bit difficult to source here in Sweden, it seems... I've found it, but with the added price of a 4-in-3 module, it's almost as expensive as an CM 831... i.e. 50% more than the (projected, mind you) cost of the Twelve Hundred. It a...

Antec Twelve Hundred

A bit surprised there's no thread dedicated to this case yet... Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has an inkling as to this case's release date in Europe? I really have to upgrade my server any time now, and this case is on top of my short list. But if the release date is still 4 weeks away I might ...

Because the CCFL backlight frequency is pulse-width modulated.

[Edit]: Or well, it doesn't have to be backlight-related, it could just as well be the power supply.

the pitch of smaller lcds like 22" WUXGA and 24 WUXGA is pretty acceptable... what's the problem with that? There's only one such 22". The Lenovo. There are a number of areas you can't always directly compare LCDs to CRTs. Sure, there are LCDs with much larger diagonals, but for the vast amount of LCDs in the market, the resolutions (and pixel pitches) are still stuck in the early 90s compared to the old high-end CRTs. Especially when we come ...

Samsung will introduce a 22" S-PVA panel soon, IIRC, and Lenovo has a very weird thing: 22" PVA with 1920x1200. I have no idea who can use such a thing. I can. I have one. At least in Sweden, the old Stacker is still more expensive than the price quoted for the Antec Twelve Hundred, and almost as much as a Lian-Li PC-A70.

And don't even get me started on the 832 or the Cosmos!

I wonder if you can put some of those 5-in-3 or 4-in-3 modules in this case... if so, it'll be really good for the price (it's popped up in online store databases here and there already). Um, the 9600GT would be much better than both of those cards (not the 8800GT 512 MB).

There's absolutely no reason to get an 8800GS or 256 MB GT or an HD3850/70 today.

Oh, and "2D performance" is identical between all video cards today.

FWIW, my Corsair HX520 can't keep a 500 GB HD501LJ and WD Caviar SE16 750 GB cool enough (<45°C at idle) because it itself doesn't run hot enough and thus doesn't draw a lot of air. I had to put an 800 rpm Scythe in there in the bottom channel. The Samsung now idles at 29°C and the WD at 34°C (22...

Re: S1 in Sweden

To Tsorovan: SI is available all over Sweden, the most widespread is through "EMS-butiken", a network of small shops in many places (if ordering per mail, the delivery fee is almost as much as the cooler itself, which is nice to avoid). I bought one a week ago for 194 SKR, a bargain (approx 250 US)...

No you cannot. You have to physically remove the card or it will draw power and idle away.

nvidia's Hybrid SLI (and I forget ATI's version) will be able to do what you want though. Motherboards with Hybrid SLI support is supposed to be released sometime in 2008 last I heard.
