I'm at least a year late to the party but I was doing a little research into what chip I could put in this 939 socket if there's even any around still and I saw this post. So what to heck I'll throw in mine: AMD64 TCaseMax - v1.19 ---------------------- Standard CPUID: Family: F, Model: F, Stepping:...

P180 AC97 incompatibility?

I was looking for a soundcard that works with the AC97 front panel connector in my P180. I see a couple of Creative X-Fi cards that have an "Intel HD Audio" connector that is supposed to be backwards compatible with AC97. But I see some people with P180s are having problems with the auto-mute: http:...

It will be interesting to see if Google cuts down on the cooling based their own study. You can see from the graph that 40% of their drives ran at between 25-30C, whereas the best reliability is between 35-40C. They could probably save a lot of money by turning their datacentre fridges up by ten de...

It's the ASUS A8R-MVP (not Deluxe). I didn't write that, but you can see the box in the top picture. It has three fan headers labled Case, CPU and PS. All three can be monitored, but only the Case and CPU ones can be controlled. You can set the Case and CPU fans to be BIOS controlled (Q-Fan) and Spe...

VIA using SPCR numbers in its promotional literature.

Maybe this is old news, but I was looking at power dissipations of VIA processors, and I noticed at the bottom of

http://www.via.com.tw/en/viac3/pcb.jsp

VIA is using SPCR numbers for its comparison of CPU noise.

For watching DVD's or playing fast-paced games I agree, the network bandwidth isn't high enough to sustain the frame rates. As an experiment I tried playing an avi file on my remote machine. The highest resolution I could play without dropping frames was 640 by 480. Although at this size the networ...

When you cut the thermistor from the circuit, the fan control circuit was basically turned off and when you connected the wires together, the fan would receive full voltage from the control circuit. Good this tells me the control circuit & fan still works. Thermistors usually have a negative temper...

Electronics questions - TerryW please read

So I thought to quiet my PS a bit I would replace the 80mm fan thermistor with a potentiometer. I got a 10K "volume control" from RadioCrap since they didn't have any 100K ones that I could see. The first attempt seemed to work pretty well: when I cut off the termistor, the fan stopped. When I twist...

My Enermax EG365P-VE is different than the one in the articl

I have an Enermax EG365P-VE. I was looking at the enermax modding article, which was done with a PS of the same model number: http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=9&page=1 and it mentioned that the thermistor stuck to the coils controls ...

ASUS sucks

I downloaded SpeedFan. It works great on my PC at work, but not on my ASUS A7M266 here at home. As it turns out, ASUS didn't hook up the outputs of the SMBus chip on the A7M series to the fan plugs, so you can't change the fan speeds. I sent it to ASUS, but they just sent it back to me. Next time it...
