Re: HD 5850/5870 HD 6950/6970 HD 7770 HD 7850 idle noise lev

I have edited the bios using RBE. I set the "duty cycle min (%)" option to 15% (default was 22%). I set a custom fan curve in MSI afterburner, and it shows that the fan speed is now 15%. *However* the fan speed in RPM is exactly the same, at about 1080rpm. The fan curve in RBE shows that the fan spe...

Re: HD 5850/5870 HD 6950/6970 HD 7770 HD 7850 idle noise lev

One day I might consider it, but for now I have spent all the money I intend on spending for the moment. Or I could put it another way, for that price (more than I was willing to spend) I could have gotten: a) my current used HD 6950 + aftermarket cooling b) a brand new HD 7870 - something like this...

Re: HD 5850/5870 HD 6950/6970 HD 7770 HD 7850 idle noise lev

Just to let you all know, I ended up getting the Powercolor HD 6950 (flashed to HD 6970), which has the AMD reference cooler on it. For now I can say that whilst I would not call it loud at idle, it is not totally silent either. Even after making a custom fan curve in MSI Afterburner, the fan does n...

Re: HD 5850/5870 HD 6950/6970 HD 7770 HD 7850 idle noise lev

Thanks for the input guys. Yes, the GeForce 650ti is also an option which has to be considered. As for keeping the GPU temperature that low... there is no particular reason... I had no experience with what the idle temps should or should not be, but from what has been said here, it seems I can turn ...

HD 5850/5870 HD 6950/6970 HD 7770 HD 7850 idle noise levels?

Hi there! To jump into my question quickly, I will mention that I do not care about noise under load... but idle noise levels are important to me. Im wondering if anyone can give me some input on the following graphics cards, and if they can be made quiet by making a custom fan curve in MSI Afterbur...

Re: Which Scythe is best? 120mm vs 140mm

Well, previously I suspended my hard drive with wires, but they also conducted some vibrations to the case. This time I did it properly with white elastics and the noise level has slightly dropped. I have added a second PWM Adjustable Slip Stream to my side panel, and I can now say that at 600rpm, b...

Re: Low air resistance, low fan speed, low noise technique

I totally agree with many of the points raised in this thread. I have cut away the mesh on my side panel, front panel and rear panel... my fans are now a lot quieter and push more air. I have a Spire Sonex case: http://www.spire-corp.com/main/product_detail.asp?ProdID=1154 To me, the front panel has...

Re: Which Scythe is best? 120mm vs 140mm

Okay... I bought a single 120mm Scythe Slip Stream fan. I got the PWM Adjustable version for which Scythe states: "Speed of this fan variation is continuously adjustable between 470 (± 30%) to 1,340 rpm (± 10%) and 740 (± 25%) to 1,900 rpm (± 10%)." My case's side panel has an area for two 120mm fan...

Re: Which Scythe is best? 120mm vs 140mm

Thanks for your input! :)

This will help me choose the right fans for my case.... I will probably be buying some fans after New Year's Day.... I will make sure I post my impressions whatever I end up getting.

Which Scythe is best? 120mm vs 140mm

I am wondering which Scythe case fan is better between the following two series: Slip Stream 120mm Case Fan http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/026/sy1225sl_detail.html Slip Stream Kazemaru2 140mm case fan (120mm mounting holes) http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/111/sm1425sl12_detail.html If I...
