Re: Want to help Corsair build the [quietest] case ever?

The problem with the 'standard' ATX design is that a lot of the intake airflow is wasted. One of the two front intake fans will be blowing towards the back end of the PSU, which does little good. Meanwhile, you can't get cool outside air directly to the CPU heatsink, because it's blocked in front by...

Re: Silverstone FT04?

Anandtech reviewed the FT04 today. Looks like they still have some concerns about build quality - I'm most concerned about the front door snagging. One of the translated reviews also said that it doesn't hold shut with as much force as it should. I'd be interested to hear more about this - it seems ...

I'm aware of several other foreign reviews as well, but as I noted, everyone in the English-speaking world seems to be ignoring this case for mysterious reasons.

Silverstone FT04?

The Silverstone Fortress FT04 has been available on Newegg and Amazon for about a month, but for some reason, no one in the English-speaking world seems to have reviewed it or even discussed it much. Anandtech and a couple other sites reviewed the RV04, which is the same chassis but with cheaper sty...

Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor

We didn't observe any heat issues with our sample chip. On our CPU test rig running Prime95, the temperature stabilized at 67C (according to CoreTemp), ambient was 21C, Scythe Kabuto @ 800rpm. Power draw from wall: 149W AC. Well, that's a helpful data point, and definitely good to know. Just out of...

There are no Haswell Xeons with a TDP lower than 80W. The desktop processors don't support ECC. (Some of the lower-end parts might, as they did with Ivy Bridge, but the only way to get quad core and ECC is with a Xeon.)

Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor

...but the flip side is that if you're running a silent rig, you're most likely using a big powerful cooler with a fan that's set to keep the CPU temp below a certain temp (let's say silent below 60, and always keep it below 70C). This is pretty easy with most motherboard fan controllers these days...

Re: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Processor

I would be interested in seeing some numbers on thermal performance. This is one area that really concerns me with Haswell, and hasn't gotten a lot of discussion so far in the reviews on most major sites (Anandtech, Tom's Hardware, etc.) Some sites discuss how thermal limits put a ceiling on overclo...

Re: Powercolor passive 7850 announced

Hmm... interesting. Assuming it sees release soon, wouldn't this be the most powerful passive video card currently available? It looks like it might work well in a Silverstone Fortress FT02 case - the fin orientation is parallel to the airflow direction in that case, so it would get plenty of fresh ...

Re: is seasonic discontinuing fanless?

Newegg specifically shows the SS-520FL as discontinued (not just out of stock). Strange that this model would be dropped so soon, considering it got very good reviews from most tech sites. Are they putting out a new revision, or is there some other reason for this (the buzzing issues?) It seems like...

Interesting new case from NZXT

I was browsing TweakTown today and saw a news item on a new silent case that NZXT is apparently going to start selling soon, the H630. They have it on their official site , with a listed price of $149.99, though it is not available yet. Although the overall design seems to fit the normal pattern for...
