Re: What full tower cases are most silent?

I used to enjoy big towers, but unless i need the space i dont think its worth it. Out of the what you are considering, i would go with Fracalt Design XL R2, its the same as my Define R4 just bigger. Both have the same room on the back though, only the height and that XL R2 has more PCI slots for a...

What full tower cases are most [quiet]?

I need a full tower case with plenty of room for sleeving behind the motherboard tray. No windows. I don't want to install aftermarket noise dampening so I'd rather have the case already be excellent at blocking or absorbing noise. I would like the ability to cleanly install aftermarket fans (like N...

Re: What's louder? Two 2-platter drives Or One 4-platter dr

A single drive is better. Think about it from this perspective: which uses more power? A 2 platter drive will use a little less than a 4 platter drive but not much less so doubling up 2 platter drives will use substantially more power than a single 4 platter drive. The noise from a hard disk comes ...

Re: New Build Time - Seasonic Platinum PSU??

anyone have anything to say about the 760 or 1000W (overkill) versions of this? I've always gone for seasonic, is it worth shopping around for new brands (available in the UK)? I would reccomend the Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 10 1000W or 1200W. They're based on the Seasonic X design. But they have en...

Re: What's louder? Two 2-platter drives Or One 4-platter dr

I would go for a single drive. I think it would be less noisy. But this depends much on application I think. Two poorly decoupled drives can cause a lot of noise, but you could also let one drive sleep. For future upgrades I think you are better of with the bigger drive though. Also cost is a facto...

What's louder? Two 2-platter drives Or One 4-platter drive?

Take for example, the new Seagate NAS series drives. The 2TB uses two 1TB platters. The 4TB uses four 1TB platters. (the 3TB uses four 750GB platters though) The 2TB drive is listed as Idle 1.9 bels (typical) 2.0 bels (max) ____ Seek 2.1 bels (typical) 2.2 bels (max) And the 4TB as Idle 2.3 bels (ty...

WD Red or Seagate NAS

What's the better drive? They both claim silence; & I see the Red got a good review at SPCR, but all the reports of them failing in the newegg & amazon reviews make me tentitive since I won't be running RAID. The main reason I'm looking at NAS designed drives is because they're marketed as having lo...

Could PSU wattage overkill be beneficial to silence?

I've noticed most people here try to get the lowest wattage PSU they can that will meet their power demand requriements. Now I'm not an electrical engineer, but I have a couple theories and I'm wondering what you all think. Is getting a high wattage PSU (that is also still high quality, I'm not advo...

Re: Seasonics PSUs buzzing/whinning alternative brand advice

I'm in the same boat. I had a S12 430W back when I had my Athlon X2 and I loved it. Still works to this day but it's far too outdated & underpowered for a modern build; plus I don't want to risk an old cap going and nuking my system. So I thought, hey the X series is rated so well at JonnyGuru.com i...
