Re: New AMD Ryzen 3000 chips leaked

X570's BIGGEST Problem.... (Ryzen 3000) MSI @ Computex 2019 Yeah, that is pretty disappointing as I'm planning to build a Ryzen 3000 to replace one of my passively cooled Haswell PC I built almost six years ago. The new PC will still be very compact but no longer passively cooled as I need somethin...

[...] when using AVX or AVX2. As a computer idiot, I know nothing about them and will probably never use them. An Intel CPU can draw a lot more power than it's rated TDP As an ordinary home user, I can't think of a situation where I will use a CPU that way. I'm very sorry if I gave you the impressi...

Re: Which is faster, dual-core G3240 or quad-core i5-4460T?

another forum advised me to use this calculator. Should I ignore his advice? Yes. Here's an easy and conservative way to calculate your stressed power load: CPU TDP + GPU TDP (if using discrete gfx card) + 30-50W (for motherboard + fans + SSD + 1 to 2 HDDs) + power use of any other PCIe cards. Add ...

Re: How good (quiet) are modern SFX PSU?

If you can afford the premium price, then yes Platinum psus are worth it. Bear in mind that there other things that push the price up, for example hybrid fan control and modular cables. [snip] The hybrid fan control is pretty nifty. My five year old Seasonic is placed in the bottom of an Antec P180...

Re: Worth Upgrading an Antec P180?

I bought the P180 in 2006 and I'm very pleased with it. After an upgrade of internals (CPU, PSU, SSD, etc) five years ago the only thing spinning/rotating at idle are the CPU fans (Noctua NH-C14) and until a year and half ago the old NVIDIA GTX 670 got replaced with a card not spinning at idle. Yep,...

Thanks for all the excellent work and help

I thank all for the hard and excellent work done by those behind this site and the community. It has been very helpful to me over the years. I've been visiting this site (infrequently), since February 2006, likely even earlier but I do not have a record of that. Likely I've been a member of this for...

Re: looking for a printer that wont screw me over.

^ Depends on what your are printing. An often sited metric is number of pages with 5% coverage intended to match text and more details can be had from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_19752 My usage is generally to print articles with blocks of graphics having large areas of gray shading, which ...

Re: looking for a printer that wont screw me over.

Everybody is suggesting the laser printer, but how much do you need to print, Xan_user? A lot? then the laser is surely the solution. Not a lot, then the question remains... After I replaced my ink printer with a networked mono laser printer six years ago I never had problem with printing. Since I ...

Re: CPU cooler for powerful (gaming etc.) quiet PC

You did not mention storage device in your post and a SSD is silent as can be. This autumn I built both passively and actively cooled computers for home use, and the below is for my gaming, erh, essential work at home. It is the most quiet actively cooled powerful PC I've built. With all power savin...

Re: Low Power mini-itx "Workstation"

blankus, does the Z87I allow for undervolting? Yes, but only at a fixed CPU Core voltage and that from the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. For some reason I cannot change the voltage from the BIOS. There is no "Adaptive CPU Core Voltage Offset" like the Asus Z87-PRO or the Gigabyte GA-Z87N-WIFI have....

Re: Low Power mini-itx "Workstation"

And if you get a K chip instead of T or S, you can undervolt instead of underclock to see how far down you can take it while still having stock performance. I have a i7-4770T and on the MSI Z87I I can underclock, but not overclock. The underclocking can be done with the Intel Tuning Utility that fo...

Your development tools, as such, will work very well in your PC configuration, performance wise. I've used those, and similar, tools as a professional programmer for many years. MS Office will work very well with your configuration. Google Earth will, as well, work excellent on just about any recent...

Re: NF-S12A 120mm fan, third generation.

I just bought my first Noctua product, S12A. My first reaction: why isn't Noctua more popular on SPCR?? I concur with you completely. Noctua fans are far more quiet and produce less vibration and even studier than others. Apart from them, they exhibit really nice and stable PWM characteristics. I h...

Re: ASUS Z87-Deluxe fake 4-pin headers & other fan control i

A very useful post by OP. I've got an Asus Z87-Pro (with BIOS 1405 dated 2013.08.29) that has some peculiar BIOS fan control restrictions, as noted by OP. In my case all my fans (Noiseblocker M12-S2 for chassis fan and a single NH-C14 stock fan) are 3-pin that has a 60% minimum duty cycle, but for t...
