Re: PSU advice for a mini ITX Asus-H87I-Plus + i5 4590T + 2

I have a very similar configuration, and I asked the same question here:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=67653

Hope you could find some hints there.

bye!

Re: PSU for a 60W PC. Any advices?

I received the package, and immediately installed the new power supply.

18W idle, and the power brick is... almost cold.
59W full load @3400MHz, and only the cpu fan is spinning up. I like it!

Thank you for your suggestions. Bye!

Re: How to slow down my desktop

just run, as root user, these two commands:

cpufreq-set -c 0 -g powersave
cpufreq-set -c 1 -g powersave

the 'powersave' governor chooses always the lowest frequency.

Re: PSU for a 60W PC. Any advices?

It seems that 20-pin picoPSUs don't have the 4-pin separated plug for the cpu power connector. This means that I must choose a more powerful 24-pin picoPSU?

Could you suggest a reliable european online shop?

Re: PSU for a 60W PC. Any advices?

Yes, 60W with 4 cores fully loaded, running at 3400Mhz, and the noisy 180W power supply. No undervolting, just BIOS defaults. This cpu can go up to 3800Mhz, reaching its 84W TDP (I suppose), but I don't know how to unlock this "turbo" mode and I don't care. What I find interesting is that 4 cores ru...

PSU for a 60W PC. Any advices?

Hi all. My current system is an Asus H87I-PLUS motherboard, I5-4670, two 2.5 HDDs. The actual power consumption, measured on the power cord, is between 20W and 60W (cpu full load). I would like dismiss the case's noisy PSU (Thermaltake SD101) for something really quiet. I'm thinking about an extenal...

Re: Asus H87I-PLUS hw monitoring/fan control - Linux [solved

My PSU has a small fan, 3 or 4 cm diameter. I don't know If there's something I can do about the noise. The PSU is equipped with Thermaltake SD101 Mini-ITX case. Good case, well built, but I have totally underestimated the PSU noise level. Given that my system power consumption is between 20W (idle)...

Re: Asus H87I-PLUS hw monitoring/fan control - Linux [solved

There's some hard low-limit for the CPU-FAN connector. Plugging the chassis fan into it (a standard 8cm fan) it runs quite fast (and noisily) even setting pwm to 0. Conversely, plugging the cpu fan into the CHASSIS-FAN connector I can go below 1000rpm: 700rpm with pwm at 80/255. Lowering further the...

Re: Asus H87I-PLUS hw monitoring/fan control - Linux [solved

mmmmh...

I can't set cpu fan speed below 1000 rpm, no matter what duty cycle I set (in manual mode).
I disabled all Q-FAN controls in BIOS settings.

As far as you know, there are motherboards with hard-lower fan speed limits?

Re: Asus H87I-PLUS hardware monitoring/fan control, under Li

I upgraded to kernel 3.14.4, and now the driver nct6775 works! I'm happy. Now I can read fan speed and manually set their speed. This driver also has some fan control modes, I'll play with them. There are 15 voltage sensors, at a glance I didn't figure out which ones are the CPU voltages. faugusztin...

Re: Asus H87I-PLUS hardware monitoring/fan control, under Li

Ah, ok... I didn't think about rebooting. Yes, fan speed is definitely shown by bios interface :-)

I'll plan a reboot as soon as possible, this is 24x7 powered-up machine. I'll let you know.

Re: Asus H87I-PLUS hardware monitoring/fan control, under Li

quest_for_silence, yes, I'm running the stock fan and heatsink. I cannot read its speed because I'm missing the hardware monitor driver (if it currently exists). faugusztin, I've just compiled the nct6775 driver, but loading it (modprobe) I get a 'no such device' error. Damn. I'm running kernel 3.10...

Re: Asus H87I-PLUS hardware monitoring/fan control, under Li

lm-sensors runs its tests, but no success. Maybe there's still no support in the kernel for the hardware monitoring device. How can I know the manufacturer/model of the device? The quietest settings in the bios are not enough, I keep the pc on the desk and I can hear the fan noise. The CPU temperatu...

Asus H87I-PLUS hw monitoring/fan control - Linux [solved]

Hi all. Does anybody know anything about fan control of Asus H87I-PLUS motherboard, using Linux? I would like slow down a little bit the CPU fan, to have a quieter pc; but I have no hardware monitoring interface under /sys filesystem, as I had on a previous Asus motherboard. I tried with the 3.13 ke...

Re: underclocking i3-4340

Thank you for your answers.

I'm thinking about underclock in order to find my sweet spot of the noise emission if I have to reduce it. Also, I probably have to change the indended use of this PC in the future, so I need the full power the cpu can offer.

bye!

Re: i5 4670K vs 4670S

Hi all. I read somewhere that non 'K' Haswell cpus aren't suited for overclock (ok with this), but they aren't good even for underclock; the writer of the article states that forcing underclock through bios/motherboard settings likely gives an unstable system. Do you think this could be true? For un...

underclocking i3-4340

Hi all. I'm planning to buy a i3-4340, and installing it into a ASUS H87I-PLUS itx motherboard (already bought). I read that this processor (and the whole i3 series) can't be underclocked / undervolted. Is it true? Another question, if you don't mind: what kind of noise I should expect at idle state...
