Re: New site look(!)

MikeC sold the site. That's bittersweet to hear. It's the end of an era but hopefully that means that were moving into a new era of regular content. Which would be great as long as it maintains the same level of quality that MIke and Lawrence set. Any word on who the new owners are? There is part o...

Re: Are single fan 2060's worth even considering?

The only dual fan RTX2060 that i would recommend is the MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming Z 6 GB Review , if you go to triple then there is also the Asus RTX2060 Strix, but neither will be the typical msrp card. Just to clarify, any higher end 2060's are way out of my budget. I was hoping to stay under £...

Are single fan 2060's worth even considering?

The time has finally come to upgrade my Asus GTX 670 Direct CU II Top. When looking for a card fit to replace such a fantastic and quiet GPU, I naturally made Asus my first port of call. The Asus GTX 1660 Ti Strix immediately caught my eye as it had everything I wanted and could reasonably hope for ...

I've solved the issue but I'm going to go through the motions just in case this thread can act as a helpful resource for other users in my situation. What kind of low freq noise? It's similar to when you have a fan on your desk/floor. Specifically the way in which the fan reverberates through the su...

Best way to deal with low frequency hum? (MicroServer Gen8)

What's the best way to deal with low frequency noise? I've have a HPE MicroSever Gen8 with 4x 8TB Seagate Ironwolf disks installed and in terms of noise, (to my ear at least) it's actually surprisingly quiet across the higher frequencies. I'd go as far as saying I wouldn't mind having it in my offic...

Re: Zip Ties Or Twist ties?

I use heavy duty zip ties but I insert the end in up side down so that they don't ratchet/lock into place. Being heavy duty means that the tension is enough to keep them tight but when I need to reroute a cable, all I have to do is loosen the zip tie, do what needs doing and tighten it up again.

I've had to reformat your post as SPCR doesn't allow more than three quotes in a post... all that work copying, pasting and editing "

" for nothing. 1. I am looking to do a custom-build router for pfSense 2.2.6, and would like help compiling a parts-list. My budget is $30...

Re: Which manufacturer has the best BIOS fan control?

I've been busy for the last few weeks, so please forgive the slow reply. Yes, i already tested it with my H170 Pro4, but not all PWM fans are design the same way, meaning that some fan can stop under certain PWM like Noctua NF-P14R PWM, and others can't like Noctua NF-S12B PWM. If you do want to sto...

Re: Which manufacturer has the best BIOS fan control?

Asrock is the best but may limit you to PWM only chassis fans. MSI is next. Asus has greatly improved their BIOS fan control to provide some Fan Xpert features. Early BIOS versions kept messing with the minimum fan RPM it would recognize. If that's sorted out, it could be #1 or 2. First of all, in ...

Which manufacturer has the best BIOS fan control?

I'm planning to build a Linux based HTPC / PVR and as such, SpeedFan is unfortunately a no go. But seen as though the HTPC will sometimes be on whilst I'm sleeping in the same room (due to it also serving as a PVR), low noise is a must... I want to have my cake and eat it too. Are there any manufact...

Interesting read as always, Lawrence (especially as I was considering a very similar build before deciding to wait for Pascal and Kaby Lake). I'm planning to build a HTPC and MSI's H110M ECO motherboard is on my shortlist of possible motherboards. Before I can make a decision though, I need to confirm that the H110M ECO has the features I'm after. I've checked MSI's website (which is very lacking in terms of info) and I've been googling f...

Ah yes, i guess to vacuum it the best option would be in front of the fan. Thanks guys! If you plan to clean the filters using a vacuum cleaner. It's best to remove the filters and clean them away from the computer. There's two reasons for this. First of all, vacuum cleaners can generate large amou...

Re: Is it possible to estimate a computers dBA level?

Does that also apply to other components that produce roughly the same level of noise but with a different sound profile? I guess it doesn't work that way: each of those sources has its own radiation pattern. By the way, stop all the fans but the Glidestream, crank it up to about 1200-1300rpm, and ...

Is it possible to estimate a computers dBA level?

I'm currently in the process of planning a HTPC build and one of my goals is to make it as quiet as my gaming rig when it is idling. The problem is though is that I don't know exactly how loud my gaming rig is at idle, so I don't know whether the 26 dBA noise level of the system I wish to base my HT...

I have a few NoiseBlocker B12-2's which come with the mounting hardware linked below. I've found that you can make a small but noticeable difference by getting the tightness of the nuts just right. It can help to lessen reverberation through the case. http://content.hwigroup.net/images/products_xl/1...

The drive trays support both 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives, are made of flexible plastic, and fit rather loosely when snapped into place.
