Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

You know I've sat here quietly while FAH has been dishing me out WUs that take several days and assign a few thousand points. This last one? Over 2 days for about 12,000 points, and then it failed. This has been going on for about a month. Enough already.

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

I just got one worth 14,900 points.

Estimated completion is 8.9 days.

Yes you read that right, over a week for 15K points. 1 work unit.

I'm not doing this for the points, but this is ridiculous.

Re: As you get older are you planning for bad times?

This winter's temps were severe, but what stands out for me was how relentless the cold was, it didn't last 3 or 4 days, it came and stayed. I would say we were in the teens when you report 1F. I basically refused to go out without 2 pairs of pants. I wore sweats underneath my regular pants, took th...

Re: SPCR Folds Team Blog

I just got a work unit that's going to take me 2+ days to finish. Worth 33,000 points, it says my PPD is 13,000, worse than a string of 5757's. Where on earth did this come from? And have we welcomed Wild Penguin? Not to be confused with the domesticated variety. Kittle? Coweater? And Graham Astor? ...

I smile as Kittle has blown my doors off. I don't mind at all. You go Kittle.

I do mind the team has dropped 2 places recently to the 59 slot.

And Cordis, you need to get back above 600K a day, I'm tired of carrying you.

Yes, that's the bonus.

I HATE WI-FI! I've lost close to 24 hours.

Yeah, they're miserable, but why don't you get more bonus points for finishing them in 1/3rd the time it takes me to complete 1?

Every dealt with FEMA? Whatever dignity you have after losing everything will be ripped from your hide by them. I know people who qualified for assistance after 9.11 simply just quit trying to deal with them. Now if we were banksters that toppled a global economy, they'd be shoving money down our th...

Well where are the so called bonus points? It takes me 9 hours to finish a WU for 5757 points. Neil finishes one in just 3 hours with the same points. On the other hand bonus points really skew the PPW equation. What's a folder to do?

Ugh, if you want a card for folding compare this to the 980. The 980 has 100% more shaders for just 35% more power. The only thing the 960 has going for it is the entry price.

HW wise no, but I did have a virus that brought my pc to a stop. Would take 30 minutes to shut down. Would not let me run browsers or AV. I saw signs, many instances of a service running. I couldn't end any because well, Windows said I couldn't stop its services. Well duh! Ended up with faithful "fo...

I'm for a re-introduction of the strict separation of investment and retail banks. If they like to gamble, let them gamble and die. McCain tried to reintroduce the older bank regulation Clinton signed into deletion. He failed. It's like what they said in "The Day The Earth Stood Still." We know wha...

In '87 we had an ice storm in the East. Wouldn't have amounted to a huge problem except the trees had not dropped their leaves. Winter: No electricity means no heat. Options: 1. Stand by generator, too large and impractical. Can run on LP or NG, pluses. 2. Portable generator and transfer switch. Lower startup costs, adequate power, no self startup, unless I got creative. 2 pole 240 volt model if you plan on a transfer switch...

Great post Irre. " I am hypocritical, lazy, and shortsighted, and " This kind of honesty adds credibility to your argument, the exact opposite of the political nut jobs (both parties) that claim not only to be right, but to be infallible. A wood stove may get me through a -3C evening if the day temps are decent. Perfect days to bake. I like the idea of creating heat without electricity, and more so without gas. As you get older are you planning for bad times?

I'd love to strike up a serious conversation here, like we used to do routinely years ago. 1. Are weather extremes something you consider more often? In my case I have a gas boiler, but what good is that when the ignition and circulator pumps run on electricity? I'm actually quite happy my hot water...
