Re: Power Adaptor for HTPC/Mini ITX Build

Building my first HTPC Mac Mini Hackintosh So I have finally decided to get rid of my old 2006 mac mini and build a new HTPC/Mini ITX system. I am leaning towards getting a Gigabyte GA-H110N motherboard running the I3-6100 processor with either 8GB DDR4 Hyperfury X or 8GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance Low...

Re: Question about the Enermax modu 82+ 425W

Power matters as that is the gist of the problem that you don't seem to understand, some older Enermax (not limited to them) PSUs suffered instability at no/low load startup. That is not into question, and it does not seem related to the OP issue. : Its very related as he has a 2009 or prior model....

Re: Question about the Enermax modu 82+ 425W

Obviously you have no clue about the sources of power draw in small geometry semiconductors Said differently: does that matter? Regarding the Johnyyguru article it was his remarks on the overshoot that while in spec they were below average I beg your pardon but (as maybe as above) you're misunderst...

Re: Question about the Enermax modu 82+ 425W

Were does it stand in in terms of noise and efficiency by today's standards? I have one since 2009, the fan has gotten louder - although the rpm is constantly at 530- and took on an annoying sound signature, and I suspect that it's performance is starting to dwindle. I recently upgraded the compone...

So what? Obviously you have no clue about the sources of power draw in small geometry semiconductors. You talk about OC/OV conditions as if they are completely independent from power. Regarding the Johnyyguru article it was his remarks on the overshoot that while in spec they were below average, bu...

Re: Question about the Enermax modu 82+ 425W

There's a reason they discontinued them at that time The referred OP issue is not plainly related to the PSU, when you're dealing with overclocking and/or undervolting, anything can happen: as a matter of fact one of my rigs with a Seasonic PSU, a Phenom II X6, run flawless for years undervolted to...

There's a reason they discontinued them at that time Please don't take offense, but here it's not THG or any kids' playground, and that sort of "tech gossip" is not really acceptable. I strongly disagree with your thoughts: that platform was discontinued just because it's an old design, no more com...

Turned out these PSUs couldn't handle the low power states on the newer processors, regulation would go to shit That's spreading FUD (or bullshit, if you rather): it's a quality PSU, and C6 & C7 low power states doesn't imply the WHEA BSOD (moreover they are useless on a desktop, so just disable th...

Re: Pico PSU and power brick round-up

Actually this one is rated 550W peak, from Pico Box. Would you like to point out also a suitable 550W AC/DC power brick? It has 2 power connectors so that 2 bricks can be used. I think this has very limited usefulness with 2 bricks but with a 330W brick you could likely handle 400W peak loads fairl...

I'll just keep on enjoying my trouble free, absolutely silent, crappy pico PSUs. That's a paralogism: whether you need a 450W (or more) PSU, what are you doing with a Pico-like PSU? On the other hand, whether the on average about max 150W Pico were enough juice for a given task, what are you doing ...

I'm talking about a 160W picoPSU. I'd like to use it with one of these three builds: 1. 35W i3, 2x normal RAM stick (I can use one though), mobo, 1 SSD, USB audio interface 2. everything the same as in the first build but with 54, 55 or 65W i3 3. Re: Pico PSU and power brick round-up

Not much of a roundup, the Johnnyguru one is more representative than that one but even that is wildly out of date. Between picoPSU, pico-box, and HD-Plex for DC-DC converters there's a multitude of quality choices. For bricks, too numerous to mention really but mainstream PSU makers supply many, FS...

You should be fine on power and can go pretty low 80W DC-DC plus 60W AC-DC brick should do fine. I have a q2900 build ( http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=68022 ) uses a 150W HD-Plex PSU with a 30W brick and never had an issue. 150W is way overkill but it was laying around. I saw the other cases considered, of those the Fractal is at the extreme range of what I would consider an mITX case, the others are mATX masquerading as if. Wasn't aware of a "Phenom craze", when I look at forums for mITX builds (which are usually SFF < 20L) I don't see any, the occasional Prodigy...

At 31 litres it is massive for MiniITX. This is my biggest crticism of it. If you want a 31 litre case, why limit yourself to MiniITX? MicroATX is typically a cheaper motherboard size and there are MicroATX cases available at that size. My thought exactly, should've used the M1 and embraced the tru...

Re: Formerly active poster seeks advice on Node 304 build

You might consider a narrower tower cooler for an easier fit. Lawrence noted interference with the SSD/HDD cables and the cooler in the 304 review . You don't need to go massive to cool the i5, even with conservative OC. Take a look at the Scythe Kotetsu. To the 304 users: did you replace the case ...

Re: Formerly active poster seeks advice on Node 304 build

As an owner of a Node 304, I'd say you can't do much better than a G-series Seasonic due to cable connector location, you are not impeded by the 160mm PSU length at all as the connectors are all below the GPU card. When I was using mine I had a 450W G in there with an AMD based Twin Frozr(though it ...

Are there any mini PCs like this with the PSU fully inside the case? Passive or low noise active cooled. Besides the model made by a certain fruity company, I mean.
