Re: Mid-range Gaming and Linux Workstation PC

[*]Does anyone know of any Linux compatibility issues with the Z170-A? I can't say specifically for this board, but I can say that Asus is FAR better with linux and they regularly update their bios, and I currently have an Asus board running solus linux. Based on personal experience earlier this ye...

- Scythe... I have 2x Scythe Slipstream that came with a cooler. One of them definitely makes noise (The tu tu tu tu tu tu kind of noise) the other one I don't know. Same experience with the Slipstreams. One was fine but 2 others make a loud and audible clicking noises above 600rpm. Also looking fo...

Re: Linux/Windows powerful and quiet PC

I would avoid AsRock Z170 boards with Linux based systems based on personal experience. The BIOS bug described below is still not resolved for some AsRock boards as of last week. The linux mint link mentions you can email their support for a custom internal linux build of the BIOS, which they use in...

Re: Which manufacturer has the best BIOS fan control?

Just a heads up with the AsRock motherboards running linux. I am seeing constant excessive CPU usage(~12%) with the systemd journal(ie most ubuntu/redhat/debian distros) logging several thousand BIOS errors per second. This is with the latest AsRock BIOS and all updates applied. It appears to have b...

Re: Updated 120/140mm intake fan suggestions?

1 - Does Slip Stream 120 PWM produce any relevant clicky noise? I just purchased a pair of brand new SlipStream 120mm PWM and one of them has quite a rattle, which I think is a bearing noise? I can hear it from 5 feet away. The other has the same sort of noise but it's hardly noticeable even with m...

Re: A Small Silent Linux Workstation

Thanks Abula! Sorry for the long time between posting, I've been tied up with work and doing some research on the options. I've gone ahead and ordered the Scythe SlipStream fans, they look like an excellent and affordable option. For the motherboard I'm going with the ASRock Z170M Extreme4 MATX over...

A Small Silent Linux Workstation

Hello, so I bit the bullet so to speak and purchased a new CaseLabs BH4 because of the portable nature, compact size and direct airflow. The primary use is for general software development. Here's the build I'm planning. CPU: Intel i7 6700 CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9S Motherboard: AsRock MATX (not sure...

Corsair also announced some fans with maglev bearings, supposedly less noise?

Re: Thoughts on Jonsbo RM3

I love the design, especially the small size for mATX and the tower form factor. I considered purchasing it, but ultimately didn't because of cost to import to USA and primarily poor airflow concerns. The glass is very pretty and I would no doubt find a way to break it. Looking at the limited fan in...

Quite nice looking, personally I would love a DB2 for mATX with fans+airflow from bottom to top.

Re: Quiet ITX gaming build - advice are welcome )

PSU: 600W is excessive for such a configuration (under heavy gaming use power draw might be around 200W) and though it may have a fanless mode, when that little fan starts up you'll hear it. Consider using an SFX-L PSU as the 120mm fan will allow it to be quieter, eg. Silverstone SX-500-LG. I've re...

what do you (generic/royal) have to do with such a box?
Nothing much other than just saw the announcement today, casually searching for a somewhat compact silent m-atx case for a new build. Not really impressed with anything on the market.

A Silent CaseLabs Bullet?

Here's an interesting new line of cases, especially for me the 22L matx version. It's very open and airflow looks good, but only 145mm cpu cooler support.

Re: Silent mATX build?

At any rate, I'd give a look to the Raijintek Styx, as it would look one of the most interesting mATX options, particulaly if you reverse the fans flow, as seen sometimes on Raijintek Methis' builds. Probably the only real limit is that it sports just 1 stock fan, and it's wrongly oriented (you can...

I don't have any experience with it, but the Raijintek STYX is a similar matx case I've been considering. There are a couple other threads on SPR on the mitx version of it, Metis, and it seems quite nice.

This is almost exactly the same build I am currently considering. Would you consider a slightly larger case? I was looking at the Raijintek STYX rather than the Metis. Sure it's a bit larger, but has roof ventilation and more space for drives and future expansion. Here's a good review https://www.yo...

I came across this Jonsbo RM3 case the other day and love that it's compact micro-atx and stylish. Can't say for sure on airflow/silence and unfortunately have been unable to find it available for sale in the US.

Interesting case.
