Re: PC upgrade/downsize to m-ATX

It's a good choice. Don't think you'll notice any difference between windowed or not. Note the rear fan fits a 120mm. Ah, you're right! For stock, it'd work fine. You might get a few degrees cooler with a more massive cooler. But really, the gfx card noise will be heard over any CPU cooler. Try the...

PC upgrade/downsize to m-ATX

My Silverstone FT02 has served me well for 7 years, but it's time to switch to something smaller and lighter, while hopefully still keeping it quiet. I work mostly with Photoshop and 3D modelling/rendering (GPU), but also some gaming. I plan to get new i7 8700K @ stock 960 EVO SSD Asus Strix Z370-G ...

Re: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W vs. Corsair RM550x

personal y i dont think it will fit without some moddin on the psu bracket. You're totally right, I found on another forum someone who already fitted the 650W version (same 550W dimensions) by just removing the holding bracket. PS: I'll wait you on my future build thread when will be time for Asus ...

Re: [250D vs Node 304] airflow in a small, quiet workstation

If you'll be using an ATX power supply, I should point out that you'll only be able to use one fan on the side anyway, since the PSU is mounted across the case (using a different bracket for ATX PSUs): image The previous image showed an SFX PSU installed, which leaves the front-side free. Also, the...

Re: [250D vs Node 304] airflow in a small, quiet workstation

Thanks for the insightful comments everyone, really appreciate it! I guess the obvious solution for me is just trying it out without an extra fan first, and adding one in later if I feel the need to :) I'll also see if I can find a more simple PSU model, though I'd really like a modular one since I'...

Re: [250D vs Node 304] airflow in a small, quiet workstation

The NH-C14S cooler with PWM fan would be a better match for the motherboard. The older NH-C14 with its 3-pin fans would be more of a challenge noise-wise. According to the SCPR review, the fans spin up at 600 rpm, which they said was pretty quiet. With the C14S it'd lose the opportunity to put a fa...

Re: [250D vs Node 304] airflow in a small, quiet workstation

I've been doing some more thinking, and I'll probably be going with the Ncase M1 instead! The 250D feels unnecessarily big for this purpose, and the Node 304 doesn't seem to have any advantages, plus it doesn't look as good as the M1. So it will most likely be the following: CPU : Intel Core i7-6700...

Re: Silent Grizwald

Thanks for sharing your build. It's good to have another data point for this case since it doesn't seem to be that widely used. I will likely be using it for my next project, since we don't need it to be super small, and I'd rather have it be roomy and easy to build in, so my girlfriend (who's not a...

Re: Cooling issues with Kotetsu

Wow! I made sure the AI tuner was set to Manual in BIOS. It's still running at 4.2 Ghz with Tubo Boost, but on about 1.168v Vcore. Now my temps peak at 65C after 10 minutes of P95, and that's with the fan at 650 rpm! Thanks everyone :D :D On the flip side I'm just now noticing how loud my HD is... g...

Re: Cooling issues with Kotetsu

Whoa. Good that you asked about the Vcore. As you can see in the screenshot, my Vcore goes up to 1.4v+ during load even though I haven't changed any settings. That seems pretty high? Any idea why it would do that?

Re: Cooling issues with Kotetsu

Are these temps what I can expect? What's your vcore? Which thermal paste did you used? Did you tested the Glidestream also? Everything is default. Before I used the paste that came with the cooler, but now I tried som Arctic Silver 5 instead. I didn't run a stress test on the Glidestream, but I th...

Re: Cooling issues with Kotetsu

I've seen some people get such great results with the Kotetsu, but then I've also seen a few people asking if they're doing something wrong since they're getting high temps. Are there some common mistakes people make in mounting it? I felt like my temps were pretty high, so I reseated it with new th...

Re: [250D vs Node 304] airflow in a small, quiet workstation

That's very encouraging. I'll have to consider I go with the tiny Mets, or with a 250D that's a bit easier to work with and has more potential to add stuff later on. The 304 has sadly been vetoed for looking too much like a microwave. Thanks for the input!

Re: Silent MiniITX Skylake in 13.4 litres: 6400, GTX950, Nin

Hi edh, Really interesting build! I'm planning on making a i7-6700 workstation without a GPU. Do you reckon that could be adequately cooled in this setup? Does the case have a dust filter on the PSU intake? edit: from what I gather there is one version with a window, and one version with vents inste...

Re: [250D vs Node 204] airflow in a small, quiet workstation

It's not that clear whether you meant either the Node 304 or the Node 202 (the SPCR test of 202 does not seem that favourable), but the Obsidian 250D looks way too big for a tiny & cute IGP setup (noise wise YMMV). What about a Raijintek Metis? Our co-forumer edh built a nice setup with that case, ...

[250D vs Node 304] airflow in a small, quiet workstation

I'm building a workstation for my girlfriend. Priorities are size (just so she can pick it up), noise and style, so I've narrowed it down to these two cases. It will essentially only be used for Photoshop and other design software, so I'm skipping the GPU. Also no optical drive, and only a M.2 hd to...

Re: So, which version of the 980ti is the quietest?

After trying to decide between the Asus 980Ti Strix and the Palit SuperJetstream, I ended up getting the latter after reading this thread. I mounted it vertically in a FT02 together with a 6700K/Kotetsu. It's inaudible for the most part, but fans spin up to 40-50% to keep it at 80°C under heavy load...

Nice! That's a way clearer explanation than the inconsistent reports I've read previously.

Re: Opinions on the Corsair 380T?

Yeah, you're probably right. In the test you link they suggest the lackluster CPU temps are because the heatsink competes with the case fan in their particular setup, which seems makes sense cause other reviews I found got great cooling results. However, the only comparison I found for noise levels ...

Re: Opinions on the Corsair 380T?

Thanks, The EVGA Hybrid is 266.7mm/10.47in according to their website so that should be fine, but you're right that the Strix won't fit, so I guess that settles that dilemma. And thanks for pointing out the cooler height, I guess I'll have figure out the optimal solution here. I don't really plan to...

Opinions on the Corsair 380T?

My current rig is housed in a FT02 by recommendation from SPCR, and I am overall real happy with it. It is however really big, really heavy, and a real hassle to carry. Opening the top cover every time I need to access ports is also a bit inconvenient. I'm ready for something fresh and something sma...
