Re: Optimal price range for CPU Coolers.

Airflow is simply displacement; for air to come into case, air must be leaving case ... Think of the air around us as water... No, this is wrong/bad. Air is a compressable gas, water is not. Airflow is something that nature creates sponatneous when there's a difference in air pressure between two p...

Re: Interesting thing to note

To hear a decent quality fan at 300rpm is not common .. and requires very sensitive ears being quite close to it.
Are you sure it's the fan making the noise or is it maybe the grill effecting airflow that is making the noise?

What is your system, including case, CPU cooler, etc?

Re: Potential upgrade

What is your case airflow like? Ideally, what is the air temp going into cooler compared to room ambient? Many stock case fans / case fan setups cannot supply the cool air cooler need and they end up using heated exhaust air that is 5-10c even 20c warmer than room .. and every degree warmer the air ...

Re: Optimal price range for CPU Coolers.

I agree, $50 is a good balance of performance and price. But getting a good air cooler is only half of the job, the other have being setting up case airflow to supply CPU cooler (& GPU cooler) with cool air at or near room ambient. The reason is that for every degree warmer the air is going into coo...

Nice build! The TY-147B slotted housing is supposed to change sound and airflow slightly, but I didn't notice any difference in any of the applications I tried them in. Here are specifications. TY-147 B has a different bearing, slotted housing and is 1dB quieter. TY-147B Dimensions 140 x 152 mm Inst...

Are you monitoring the air temp going into CPU & GPU coolers? I'm going to make a wild guess you have not done this yet, and that the air temp into cooler is higher than room .. especially the GPU. ;) I'm guessing your 2x AP181 fans are not able to flow /push enough air to keep cool airflow to fans ...

Hello, What CPU cooler (low noise / reasonable price) would you recommend for an i7-6700. I really wanted to buy this CPU cooler but can't; it's either sold out or Amazon doesn't ship it into my country. Is there a good alternative for Cryorig H7, so an excellent fan no higher than 145mm, with a big fan. P.S. Please don't say Macho 90 again, as it doesn't exist in my country. Well, with...

Re: Convert ASUS DIRECTCU II to ASUS STRIX 0dB

Kinda hi-jacking, but do you think the 680 is at a good used value point right now? Or is there something better in same price range? Here in UK asking price is £120 on 680. For comparison, a new MSI GTX 960 Gaming 2GB is £160. I'm seeing used ones on eBay for $160 in US. Depending on your monitor ...

Re: Convert ASUS DIRECTCU II to ASUS STRIX 0dB

I think it would be easier to use something like a Raijintek Morpheis, Alpenfohn Peter, or Prolimatech MK-25 with a PCIe extension. Make some sort of mount for the GPU to be aligned with motherboard and with fans drawing air from cooler and exhausting into a duct to vents in side of case. This would...

Re: Convert ASUS DIRECTCU II to ASUS STRIX 0dB

Yeah, nice idea to move air out from motherboard, but those 5x 40mm fans did a lousy job in the noise department. Would love to see 3x or 4x width coolers moving front to back or bottom to top, but the don't seem to exist.
Dreamed up this cooler design with 2x fans on end.

Thanks for that. I'm looking at a used 680 from myself and moving my 580 to wife's machine. My only complaint with it has been not being able to idle it down slower. It's not terrible, just seems a waste to have such a good cooling system and not be able to lower fan speed to take advantage of it wh...

Pretty amazing how loud HDDs become when fans are quiet. :D How tight are the HDD mounting screws through their rubber dampers? I've found the need to be almost loose. I recently bought a Scythe Fuma, which had two Slip Stream fans bundled. Their product code is almost that of the standalone: SY1225SL12M-CJP as opposed to SY1225SL12LM-P, and it has a grey colored fan. It also exhibited clicking, on DC and PWM as well. Re: Replacement fans for Scythe Kotetsu and Fractal Define R

PWM clicking is often blamed on the fan because that is where the noise originates. But it can can be caused by PWM source (motherboard PWM design), PWM in fan, and even occasionally by power source (PSU). Some "PWM clicking" has even been tracked to fan blade design reacting with vent grill, cooler...

Think you asked this elsewhere, but answer is the same. Stay away from CLCs. Get a good air cooler and have no worries. At best, H110 might give you a couple degrees more cooling. Setting up your case airflow to supply component with air as close as possible to room ambient will generally give you 5...

Define R5 is better than Define R4. To me the biggest improvement is bottom filter .. The whole bottom filter slides out the front !! No more need to pull case away from wall to remove filter out the back to clean it. :D

I would change the front intakes to better pressure fans to overcome the grill and filter resistance without needing too much rpm. 3x front and 1x bottom intake, all speed controlled based on airflow demands of CPU and GPU coolers. Raising the case so there is 40-50mm clearance not only increases ai...
