WD3200BEVT constantly ignoring APM setting

I've tried changing that BS APM setting for this drive from 96 (60) to 128 (80) wia HDAT2. Tried like half a dozen times now, no matter if in IDE or AHCI mode, despite all looks good, DCO accessible, no security set, nothing. I do the APM change, go to DCO, change something in the security row (usua...

I personally like simple and working interface. The only thing which Vista and beyond actually brought is more crap and the things I had by my hand are now burried deep under more crap. Just take for example the network adapters management. Now you have to click throguh some BS for idiot users inste...

Re: i still use windows xp on the desktop

Blah blah and more BS. XP x86-32 can easily use 3 gigs of RAM. There are shitloads of machines with about 3gigs of RAM which can still run many things. XP x86-64 which is actually 2003 server kernel with classic environment and some programs can use even more RAM and works fine. I have two machines ...

Re: i still use windows xp on the desktop

It's also funny how many ppl upgrade the other day when new OS cames out (for no reason really)…to often find there are no drivers for older HW. But even new HW based on older chips has no support for newest system. I've been just shopping some serial port controllers and the best they do is win 8. ...

There was a problem with the unit, but I have been warned about such possibility in advance. I got second unit just yesterday, if it works better, than OK, if the same, well…I'll call the series flawed.

Not sure about those low-end chips, and frankly, I do not really care. Been checking comparison of relevant ones, that's mostly 4790 vs. 6700 and 4690 vs. 6600, where is close to no difference. http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph9483/76803.png http://hexus.net/media/uploaded/2015/8/572b501a-312...

Umm, what? I've checked only a few benchmarks but the step from previous generation was pretty minor. As could be expected, actually. Haven't seen any "significative leap" in there.

I never said that. However what I said is modern units are getting too complicated - which is exactly that. So why you compare old simple units? I got plenty of those and 95 % of them can be repaired just by swapping bloated caps for qualtiy ones. But I am no longer able to repair the modern units!!...

Re: Silverstone Strider Titanium series announced

Frankly, I would myself not buy that even if it had 80+ latinum cert. For that price you can get 400W Seasonic Platinum fanless with 7y warranty, so with bad luck, you may have to buy that SS twice in the time when you are secured and insured using that Seasonic. The thing is, as PSUs are getting co...

Re: Are PicoPSU-like supplies the best option at low loads?

I think this power brick is some cheap chinese PoS, that's why it has so tragic efficiency. There are good units on the market reaching over 90 %, however, you just won't pay 15 euros for them. But around 30 I think they can be found in 120-150W range. In time I will be stocking those as there is st...

Re: Silverstone Strider Titanium series announced

The OEM is Sirtec. I don't see any problem with this, however, these units will definitelly not be the best there will be in 2016. Fan running at 650 to 1000 is not bad, but there will be many semi-fanless units. And the worst thing of all, only 3y warranty. Everybody is telling Silverstone constant...

Re: around 700 watt quiet psu for next gen graphics cards

Seasonic is now pushing the X series again with finally more differentiated price from the platinum versions (as they were very close for a long time). IIRC, the higher versions are also semifanless so if you have good price, go for it. If you plan two graphics, 650-750 W would be just fine. For sin...

Re: Quiet low-wattage PSU for a Desktop Skylake i5/i7 w/o GP

RMx is quite superior to RM so it's not that interesting option. I'd go fanless with X-400, those should now be cheaper than the platinum versions. From G series only the G-360 is good, but above 250 W it starts to be noisy. G-450+, S12G and all the OEM versions are mediocre at best. In latest revis...

I have a couple of APC CS500's, and they are silent in normal operation. They hum during discharge, recharge and self-test. Back-UPS CS (BK500EI) is off-line unit. Please always use part code as the BK500EI above, APCs website structure is PoS and searching for anything without knowing the codename...

That's 450 W and I think it won't be even that much, those small cores have problems conducting that heat at such values. In well cooled case, the fan of the semi-fankess PSUs starts spinning much later…ell, that's not 40 °C though :D

Just made my first anechoic chamber! :D

Man that was terrible work, I used about 5 square metres of molitan (local business name of PUR foam) and couple more of acoustic wavelet to cover the sides from inside. That cheap sound meter toy of mine shows 38.7 dB in silent room. Better than nothing I guess. I'll go to try the first PSU inside....

That PSU is now the quitest noise-generating component in there. Do you plan to continue? If not, getting 650W version was just a waste of money, RM550x would be just OK.

G series is nowhere to be silent, besides other problems (does not apply to G-360, this model is different platform).

Is it an expansion of what's currently known as "Titanium series" with 750W and 850W models, or something new on top of that?

And while new top high-end is nice, I think what Seasonic needs more is to replace those G/S12G series.

Fanless units usually have much higher RMA rate. Besides, it depends on the temperature, if it is too high, it starts spinning sooner.
