Re: Silent config for Coffee Lake 8400 no OC

Thanks for the replyes! What exactly model of scythe should I buy? When the system is in idle state it will be inaudible? Yes, if you get the stuff recommended on SPCR you can achieve that. :-) - Motherboard For asrock fan control I would search Abula's posts here in the forum. He made some good co...

Re: Silent config for Coffee Lake 8400 no OC

I forgot: the main thing I look at is practically only one: it must be as silent as possible. So quiet that if there are not the various LEDs on I do not have to realize that it is on :) Hello, - Case: I have an R5, it's top. The two included fans are really good. With the software of the ASUS moth...

I cannot recommend any 3000Mhz RAM. There are some encouraging comments on amazon but without first hand knowledge I cannot help you further on that. Here are the 16GB (2*8) gksill kits in the QVL: F4-3600C16D-16GVK Ripjaws V F4-4000C18D-16GTZR Trident Z RGB F4-4133C19D-16GTZKWC Trident Z F4-3466C1...

Thanks for the explanation! I can't type "Ctrl+F" to search the page (I can only use one hand), but when I go to this webpage the kits you mention on the following post aren't there.... https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/AB350%20Pro4/index.us.asp#Memory Yes they are there, you need to scroll down the pa...

Or what's the best way to know? 1) Go to ASRock website 2) Go to your board's page 3) Go to support 4) Go to Memory QVL 5) Type "Ctrl+F" to search the page 6) Enter your ram product number and type "Enter" Accxording to webopedia: QVL Short for Qualified Vendor List , QVL is a list of pre-qualified...

Success :!: :!: :!: Congratulations for your perseverance and your success :!: Thank you for sharing this here. I keep the idea in mind and I may try it later on to see how it improves my drives. I was surprised when I got my R5 that while being marketed toward silence they don't provide elastic mo...

This DIY built use 'fabric' to reduce noise: DIY Perks - DIY Computer Case - The Ultimate Silent PC (CLOUD UNIT) " It's a laptop drive, so designed to work where there is no airflow (temps are about 35c which is ideal). " (within fabric) Now with the reflection explanations I understand it better.

Re: Need alternate recommendation to WD Red

$100 - Amazon refund =~ $20 :). My 16GB RAM cost more than a lot of motherboards nowadays. The Define C doesn't contain any 5.25" bays and I don't know much about DIY elastic suspension. It's amazing I was able to build my first PC recently . I sit about 1.6 meters (5.2 feet) away from where ...

Re: Need alternate recommendation to WD Red

Seriously ? This is middle age, you won't get a 100$ enclosure for a drive ?! I would try to suspend it with elastics where would be the 5.25 drive. That gives the best result for me. Then if you still hear it even with the nice damping of your define c case I don't know what to do. You coul...

Re: Need alternate recommendation to WD Red

Now I feel like a thief  . After left wondering why the WD Blue is not eligible for a refund, I called Amazon and they processed it, but couldn't accept the return "for security reasons". I was told that I can either keep it or destroy it. The other oddity is why I was able to return the WD Re...

Re: Best silent case to choose from?

Don't recall anyone here with an R5 build having HDD resonance issues. That said, some HDDs are much more prone to vibration than others. I had with my old caviar drive (caviar green 650GB). The rubber grummets are useless and I had to suspend the drive to get rid of vibrations and extra noise. It'...

Re: Need alternate recommendation to WD Red

I just installed the WD20EZRZ and the result is better. It's quieter and less annoying than the Red. Unfortunately, it's still noticeable even behind my hissing speakers. I love my speakers, so I definitely won't be replacing them despite the constant white noise in a quiet environment. The WD Blue...

Re: School me on work/light gaming build

I think a Scythe Kotetsu mark II should be enought. I run a Kotetsu with an i3 (65w TDP) and while gaming with fans at very low speed, my CPU is 30°c. It already feels overkill so I don't see any reason to go for the mugen. I have no experience with overclocking and I am more a beginner so let's see...

Re: Silent, affordable yet powerful game PC

Grouping your quotes by topic again: They think the case is too big and overkill, and I should go with a smaller one. Maybe the Define C, Define Mini C (micro-ATX), or Nano S (mini-ITX, though that's apparently not a good idea with a big video card) from Fractal Design. Would the Fractal Design Def...

Re: Silent, affordable yet powerful game PC

Ryzen's price/performance is killing intel right now. Ryzen's offers 6 cores and 12 threads. Its peformance comes very close to a xeon 1650v3 that costs 3 times the price and use more power. The better comparison is the Coffee Lake i5 8400 vs the R5 1600 as shown in my link in an earlier post. 6C/6...

Re: Silent, affordable yet powerful game PC

Regarding the motherboard: I had a look for the MSI B350M Mortar that's advised by hardware.fr It's a bit cheaper than the PC Mate and seems to have all features. It has 3 extra fan headers, which is perfect. The fan control window of the BIOS looks very similar to the msi x99a gaming pro board I re...

I found the video review by Gamers Nexus quite substantial, and helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHGAJYcgBHI&t=214s Thanks for the link. Re: Silent, affordable yet powerful game PC

Hey, keep us updated with your budget and price list so you can get something cool under 1000€. R5 You cannot be disapointed with that case. It felt overkill because I run an i3 and a 1060. While gaming my PSU fan doesn't start and with fans at the lowest speed my temps go around 30°c ! While stress...

@Hatch:

I have an R5. It's great but I doubt you would gain anything from updating. Maybe your fans get used and they need to be changed ? Any problem with your temps or fan noise ?

Antec P180 sounds like a good old BMW or a good old Harley. You don't change thoose things :p

Installing Prolimatech MK-26 or Accelero on 1070 1080 GPU ?

Have you tried ? Some people sell them used so I wonder if it's a good investment. Let's say 25€ for the mk-26 and 25€ for two noiseblockers. That's 50€ and it would make me more free of of choosing a 1070/1080 or maybe have better cooling ? It seems cooling have improved so much so I wonder if it w...
