Re: Thinkpad P14S Gen 2 AMD eugh

I mean I like to put my feet up these days and not have to sit at a desk and stare at a monitor. I have a fast PC I never use. The issue with returns etc is there's a 3-6month lead time for custom configs in the UK from Lenovo. And a lot of these whine too, I don't want to spend 2 years of RMA heada...

What better result? Is running a fan going to be quieter than no fan?

I tried doing what you suggested a few years ago and I could still hear the fan at 5%.

Thinkpad P14S Gen 2 AMD eugh

Upgraded from faithful but slow, quiet x230 to a P14S G2 AMD. Love the laptop...but the NVMe inside it makes very audible coil whine noises. I presumed NVMe's were silent at idle, I've heard the same noise in my PC when transferring files only, but this laptop does it all the time, from boot to watc...

In the end, no. Still have it and not used it. In the summer heatwave I wired up a noctua exhaust fan but other than that never needed a fan at all.

It's a shame nvidia don't make passive graphics cards anymore, that 1050ti was the last they ever did.

I don't see the point of this cooler.

Just buy a D15 and run it fanless.

Still running a D14 with no fans, 3600X, no issues, other than trying to get ram into the second slot...

Re: 3600X on Msi B450 Tomahawk MAX

I got it all done a few weeks ago... don't need to undervolt or underclock it. Running D14 with no fans. All I got running fan wise is a single 12x25 exhaust fan. System works great. Messed up with the ram it turns out e-die is 5% worse than b-die performance wise so I could have had 2x16gb @ 3600 C...

3600X on Msi B450 Tomahawk MAX

After a lot of contemplation, decided to update my PC, which was struggling. Even Dreamchess was taking 10 secs per turn to compute. Looking at Geekbench runs it seems my single core performance will rise from 800 to 1100/1200 but my multicore performance double from ~3000 to ~6000. It was £25 more ...

It's important for companies, even if their products are inferior, to gain market share, otherwise Noctua would start charging £300 for a heatsink.

My D14 does this with no fans. Both 2500k and 3770k (both TDP 95w+), no other fans in case. No one believes me... But it's silly because with low rpm fans you can't hear them anyway, and then you get to overclock if you wish for free performance.

Re: Gonna buy a 3900x which is the MOST silent fan for it?

Get the D15-AM4, and buy a pair of NF A12x25 PWM's to replace the 140's it comes with. Install them on a LNA each and run them around 20%. It will be next to silent, with great performance and no clicking. You're not going to get better than that on air. If that doesn't work then it's water / AIO fo...

I'm waiting for NF-A14x25 which Noctua told me would be released Q3/Q4 2019, it is now Q3 2019 so, soon. The 140mm version of the U12A will wipe the floor with everything if it's basically a U12A+. I am also looking to get rid of my standalone gfx card and go full iGPU so 9900k is looking like the b...

I was thinking of upgrading to Ryzen 3000 series... but I realized I don't really use my PC anymore. try zip ties instead of screws I might try that. Currently I don't have any zip ties small enough. Having said that, it's doing a great job. Temps have dropped by 10-15c depending on load, at 25% PWM (with LNA's) which shows as 499RPM in Speedfan, the case, with these Noctuas, is totally silent. In...

Got the fans in! Such ballache.. The upper front fan won't fit, I guess this is what you get with a cheap case... there isn't enough room for the screws at the top, like literally 2-3mm too high for the fan mounts. And the screws that come with the fans are not good for fitting them with this case a...

Next gen also tends to use less power, therefore requiring less fan speed therefore quieter. Which is why I chose a 1060 over a 960/970. Therefore not "not worth it".

Re: Explanation of why this forum doesn't like T series cpus

TDP is a measurement that only is kinda true when all intel specs are followed but even intel don't enforce, as they want to see their chips beating the competence by performing better. My 9900K is a 95W chip.... that goes into 150W easily without any Overclocking, simply with the turbo boost. Toda...

Re: Low end Zotac card vs Galax card

I would go MSI, I have gaming X 1060 and even when on 40% I can't hear the fans... the fan quality is brilliant.

And you should be able to custom modify the bios to enable 0DB, unless the hardware fan controller differs, which is doubtful.

Re: One or Two front intake fans?

I always put my psu fan underneath my case. Firstly there are dust filters there. Secondly I use solid Corsair PSU's (RM or better) and they are efficient, not only that but their fans only come on under extreme conditions so 99% of the time exhaust fan heat going back into the case is moot. Re: Corsair 275Q

Very nice post, haven't heard of this case before! How's the space for adding new fans? There's room for 3x120's at the front and 3x120's on the top but you have to remove the magnetic dust filter / noisefilter to do so (which does make quite a difference to noise output). Not sure about 140's but ...
