60C+ on that CPU is the only thing that worries me, especially with only a single instance of Prime running. I can imagine a large HD video stream could put more load on the system than the single Prime test (especially with multi-threaded decoders coming out now). Does the system run 24/7, or only...

If you're willing to do so, I'd recommend taking a dremel (or any other rotary tool) to the rear grille behind your CPU duct. MikeC has an article somewhere around here outlining the effects of various grilles, and shows that with a simple wire grill still cuts down airflow by about 15% (IIRC). You...

This is good. I have the same problem you do, my TV stand is too narrow, and I don't get good ventilation through the sides. I have about 8mm or so on either side of the case. At the moment I am running both side fans into the case instead of out, and I have strapped an 80mm exhaust onto the back v...

Interesting idea and it looks good too. Do you have any "before" stats to see of you are getting a benefit from the duct? Have you thought about ducting the Minja intake to one of the 80mm ports on the side of the case? I would try the one towards the read and leave the other one open to the case f...

Front to Back Airflow in an Antec Fusion
Given the constraints of the TV stand housing my HTPC, I had to figure out a way to create effective front to back airflow in my Antec Fusion. I created some ducts for my SilenX 80mm fans to exhaust air out the rear 70mm opening and the unused PCI slots. The ducts are made out of corrugated cardboar...

Re: Fans blowing in work ok with stock cooler and mineba fan
CPU 38 System 31 ... Blowing air in appears to have done the trick for the cpu and sytem temps and cooling, but the video card and back of the case is still pretty toasty. Your temperatures look really good now. What would you say made a greater difference, reversing the side fans or cleaning up th...

You can check out the link in my signature if you want to see how I did the cabling in my case. I routed the 24 pin cable under the optical drives, through the HDD chamber, then finally into the main chamber to the motherboard. I routed the 4 pin cable straight into the main chamber under the mother...

try rarzilla or 7-zip... personally, i have no problems with WinRAR's interface since the common functions are integrated into the right-click menu. so i never really have to deal with the actual program GUI. I second the recommendation to use 7-Zip. It has the same shell integration as WinRAR does...

It seems that you have your hardware situation under control, but as far as software goes, I would highly recommend Vista Media Center if possible. I mainly use my HTPC to watch movies and recorded television shows and to listen to music. Vista M...

I just took a look at your post. Wow, I wasn't aware of the logistics of the SI-128 before. It looks even bigger than the XP-120! Almost makes me wish I would have gone that route. Does your heatsink have room for a fan on it? well, room for a fan without being right up against the top of the case?...

Now looking at my system at this point.... I was thinking I could probably run the XP-120 passively, but after seeing the cooler firsthand, its not nearly as big and heavy as I imagined, and looking at the fin design, it seems like passive cooling may be impossible, with this case, as it seems not ...

I am working on a similar build. However, I am thinking seriously about water-cooling like Zalman Reserator-2 or something similar. In this way I can leave the cabinet with it's back on. All I have to do is snake out the water-lines and almost all of my heat-dissipation can happen outside the cabin...

Re: NSK2400 Build Complete
I can't tell from the pics: does the SI-128 over hang the PCI-Express slot at all? I.e., if you wanted more power than the onboard video, could you fit a PCI-Express video card in there? Thanks! Matt The fifth picture down gives a pretty good shot of what you need. There's plenty of clearance, assu...

If you can get two of them to compare to each other, the difference between the 40-conductor and 80-conductor cables is pretty obvious. As a reference, a 40 conductor cable looks to have about the same wire density as a floppy cable, whereas an 80 conducter cable looks to be a lot more dense... but...

Re: NSK2400 as a quiet desktop PC
The HDD is borrowed and it's too noisy (especially the seeks). I removed the feet (to lower the monitor) and the bottom silicone rubber grommets touches the desk and I can feel those seeks. And it's less performant than my "old" DiamondMax 10 with 16mb cache. I'm very dissapointed. Have you been wa...

VGA - Idle 40C, Load 61C (GRAW @MAX 1440x900 2hours) Sorry for the OT comment, but might I ask what output device you are using for this system? I have only seen that resolution on laptops, but would be very interested in getting the same 1440x900 resolution I have on my laptop from a desktop system.

Looks great, I'm contemplating something very similar. In fact, I already have the same Ikea TV cabinet. I was thinking I'd have to do something for ventilation involving ducts and/or a fan on the cabinet itself. Looks to me like you just left the rear panel off it. Doesn't that panel provide most ...

ciz28- Your CPU is a little cooler running than mine. I finished my build last night and have been setting up RMClock this morning. At 1.10v (the lowest I can go without lockups at 2,200MHz) and running Prime95 for max heat, I hover between 39c and 40c. Still not bad at all for semi-passive cooling...

So what do you think would be better, the passively cooled SI-128 or the XP-120 with a good silent fan? Are there any "tower" heatsinks that would fit the nsk2400? I would bet any decent heatsink with a fan would cool better than a semi-passive heatsink. Adding a fan isn't exactly an apples-to-appl...

GPU My Old Radeon 9800. It is probably fairly loud but i can't hear it over the rest of my old system so I don't know. I think I looked into getting a different cooler for it, but I think I gave up since it didn't have the needed holes or something. I used to have this on my Radeon 9500: http://www...
