From my experience I think you are better off just getting a PATA. My mobo has both PATA and SATA and when I bought the machine the HDD (a samsung btw) came with a PATA/SATA plug. The problem was that when I tried to install w2k the drivers did not work (not even the newest ones from the website) so...

You could possibly put a 80mm fan there (depends on the space you have) I did this for a hs I have (the hs is 80x70 in size but had a 70mm fan, I just use 2 screws to hold the fan and it is fine) the added benefit from this is that I get extra airflow over my nb :-) At least check if you have room f...

The problem with this aproach is that "inexpensive SPL meters" tend to have minimum measurable noice close to 30db (some even higher) and we are worried about measurements in the 20db vicinity(sp?) => :(

I don't know, but My MacAffe also complained about CPU-burn after some recent upgrade.

I however have not had any problems with it so far (but I can't say for sure since I don't really run it on this puter).

Also macaffo only said some of the .exe were bad not all of them.

I support EndoSteel (my temps are 50 idle and > 65 when running burn) :o

also < 40C for a harddrive is no problem,
most harddrives are rated for 50C and if I recall correctly the cuda is rated for 60C (the cuda runs hotter than most other drives)

Well considering your temperatures then the "system" temperature is usually meaningless since it depends on the location of the thermistor which varies from mobo to mobo. e.g. CPU CPU NBNB s NBNB AGPAGPAGP s == thermistor for system temp on my mobo As you can see the thermistor for the "system" is i...
