But the 3-pin is male on that one, not female.

Yep. That's the right fan.

As for using adapters, I have no idea. Never used one, myself. I'm surprised you can only fit a 60mm fan on the back. That's awfully small. Maybe time to buy a new case. ;)

I used the same guide that chylld posted above to cut out the grills on a friend's PC case a few weeks ago, and couldn't be happier with the results. Tin snips are definitely the way to go.

What type of case do you have? The brand/model of case you have will determine what size fan you put back there.

There is no visible circuit board underneath? Are you looking at the bottom of the drive? huh? :? No visible circuit board? No, I didn't say that. I said there was no sticker on it. And, yes, I just checked again ... no sticker. Come on guys, give me a little credit here. I can certainly tell the d...

The O (it should be larger) in the middle is where the sticker or stamp should be. If I can get ahold of a digital camera I'll take pictures of mine so that you could see. Again, I know what you're referring to. But I don't have a sticker on mine. Just bare metal. So it may or may not be JVC, I can...

JVC? Yes, JVC. It's quite a large company. jvc.com is their website, but it's down at the moment. What sticker do you have on the bottom of the harddrive, near the spindle?. I know what JVC is. I was just confused that you said JVC. I have no sticker on mine. Nothing on the drive says JVC (...

ZM-F2 is very good below 1000 RPM (completely inaudible at 700 while still pushing a decent amount of air), but at full speed it's definitely loud.
I would hope any fan would be inaudible at 700 RPM. :D

Re: anyone else's Samsung too loud?

I have a SP1614C and the exact same problem; the idle whine noise is unbelieveable. Does anyone have any experience with Newegg's RMA? Is this an acceptable reason to return a hard drive? I'm probably going to have to do this even if there's a 15% restocking fee; it's impossible for me to remain sa...

Re: That's strange

I have the 160GB SP1614N Samsung drive and it runs great. I can't hear any spin noise from it no matter how close I get. This is in strong constrast to my former hdd (WD 120GB SE). That thing whines so loud, no one even wants to take it from me for free!! Access noise is a little audible, but quiet...

I think you may be confusing primary and secondary with master and slave. They're 2 different things. You have 2 IDE channels on your mobo, primary and secondary. On each of the cables for these IDE channels is a master connection and slave connection. Now, you also have 2 SATA channels, primary and...

It still doesn't explain why the SMART error is telling you that the problem is with the Primary Slave (since there isn't one). BTW - the driver doesn't need to be digitally signed. So I wouldn't worry about that. My guess (and it's only a guess) is that your BIOS is still "looking" for a slave devi...

If you only have one optical drive on your primary IDE channel, then there is no Primary Slave device. So something is definitely screwy in your BIOS. If you don't know what to look for, I'd say bring it back to the guy who set it all up, and tell him to fix it (free of charge, of course).

Samsung Spinpoint SATA (SP1614C)

I've had this baby up and running Windows XP for a couple of days now, and I am very impressed with it. Here are my initial impressions: First, I'll get to the important stuff - the noise. There is none. It added no additional noise to my PC, which was pretty damn quiet to begin with. But I wanted t...

I would recommend the Panaflo. Even if you can't get it as a 3-pin where you are, you can always try and find a 4-pin to 3-pin adapter for it, then plug it into the fan controller.

Remove 1 PSU fan

I have a 400W power supply (CompUSA brand - see my specs). It's a very good PSU surprisingly, so I'd like to hang onto it, as long as I can quiet it down a little bit. It has 2 80mm fans on it, one blowing air into it, the other exhausting air out of it (and hence, out of the case as well). The exha...

I don't have a Sonata, but I have 120mm fans. I attach them to the 3-pin motherboard headers, and let the auto-speed/temp sensor handle the speed adjusting automatically. It keeps them down at around 1200RPMs, but still keeps the case nice and cool. But you could also use a Zalman Fanmate, or some o...

Dynamat doesn't even work well for what it was originally designed for - car-audio acoustic absorption. A cheap form of sound absorption for a PC is melamine foam (which I use). Strip away the thin layer of fiber from it, and it works fairly well for the price. If you've got the money to spend, that...
