Just wanted to point out that I saw on the other GP thread that there are newer 1TB versions out there with 333 GB platters. As for the seeks: I agree that seeks are less bothersome than whine and vibration. And those are very good on this model. Nevertheless my drive has more bothersome seek noise ...

I have the WD5000AACS Caviar Green 500 GB. It is extremely quiet, especialy when soft mounted (I use the silicone mounts on the P180 Mini). It is more than fast enough, and when I boot Windows or Linux (I have dual boot) I don't even notice any difference in speed compared to 7200 RPM drives. The W...

Some AMD socket observations: On my unit the groves for the clip is deeper. Like 4mm instead of 2mm like in the pictures I see of it in the review. Tricky to tell if the clip is centered or not. Had to mount it a couple of times to make sure it was fairly centered. Also dont know if my clip was bent...

The windows wasnt a good option. For noice insulation nor for estetics.

Although if I built something that workintense I would also go for a conservative layout that is known to be functional. Better to try crazy design ideas with prototype material.

I know how that sucks. I injured my hand once when doing grille-cutting on my case. Had to wait several weeks before I could finish the job and put the computer back together.

G'luck with the build when youre better.

500GB has 2 x 250GB platters. 1TB has 4.
Ah, thanks. Makes more sense. I think it was the GP review that stated one platter.

Coolermaster 690 also has PSU at bottom. Both 590 and 690 are supposed to use 120mm fan PSU which should face downward to suck air from hole in the bottom of the case. Although I'm not sure if there is any filter included there.

Re: I have several of each, and prefer the P182

Unless I am missing something (always possible...), you need to remove the side door (which requires rear access) to open the Solo front panel, *then* take the filters out. Since we keep all our computers under desks, this is a major PITA and I find we rarely clean the filters. In the P180/182, the...

Re: I have several of each, and prefer the P182

Same dilemma for me. The air filters are also *much* easier to clean, and with most BIOS now reliably supporting keyboard power-on the door is a non-issue. Why is that? Looks like filters in both are easily accessible. Price difference around here is rather low. About the cost of one noctua 120mm. A...

Interesting. Do you have a temp sensor on your GPU? Would be interesting if that changes between 300mhz and 600 mhz.

Re: Undervolting confusion and underclocking

Underclocking (and some limited undervolting) is controllable via software on most new GPUs. That must be via GPU bios then. Undervolting in video cards can be very challenging. It's hard to undervolt most cards in software at all. And only some can be undervolted(with some work) in bios. The only ...

Heylo. Browsed this section for a bit now and I cant seem to figure out a few things: When you write about 'undervolting' in BIOS. Are you refering to graphics card BIOS or motherboard BIOS? Is there a difference and how do they play out? And how about 'underclocking'? Is it possible on newer genera...

I'd check with Ralf again, but I'm betting he's changed his tune since then. It's much easier to find a "super-quiet" 120mm fan these days than a 80mm/92mm for a decent price.
