So here's my question: is anyone selling replacement front panels for the P180/P182/P190 that offer better airflow? No, but you could get a P183 . The door is a larger version of the mATX mini-P180 and personally I find it ugly. What’s new in the P183: Front door vents, as well as wider vents alo...

One annoyance with a thermostat-style fan switch is that there's a step change in noise level, more noticeable than that from a supply voltage that varies with temperature, like their thermal controller board.

25kHz nominal, 21-28kHz is acceptable Also, it seems the fan header is supplying constant 12V with the PWM signal being 5V maximum on the 4th wire. The fan must be doing its own switching---I need to look at this more. The fan does indeed use that 5V signal to switch the 12V line to the motor coils...

I don't know. PWM makes fans noiser 4-wire PWM fans use a frequency well above the audio range, there's no logical reason for the "kick" effect of traditional LF PWM to be audible (unless you're a bat) but, as with linear control, bearing and motor noise are still possible. Hi, I am looking for information about what a standard size PSU is according to ATX standards. Corsair say "Standard ATX PS/2 size: 5.9"(W) x 3.4"(H) X 5.5"(L); 150mm(W) x 86mm(H) x 140mm(L)" This pdf from Form Factors covers all computer PSUs in detail. Usually on those gigabyte P35 boards (I think it's the same for all models) only the two 4-pin headers are controllable On the budget DS3L it's just the one (CPU fan). :( The Sunbeam reviewed here looks to be a decent controller, judging by the large heatsinks it's a linear design, not PWM, so shou...

With a PWM fan, the usual procedure of measuring the voltage to the fan is useless, it will always read 12V May be worth looking at fan current measurement instead. Providing the fans are LED-free. ;) The 'modular' aspect seems a bit poor with a 4-pin molex string hard-wired. In a modern all-SATA s...

I swapped it for the non-PWM Scythe fan (SY1225SL12M) that came with my Ninja HS; it runs much slower at idle (only 300RPM) and slower (1000RPM cf >1100RPM) under stress, with correspondingly less noise. CPU no hotter. (E2180 @ 2.9GHz, GA-P35-DS3L)

Very happy with it.

The Yate Loon D12SL-12 is the perfect cheap fan IMO. Thirded. I find they suit me at about 7V, but they do have the reserve to be turned up if needed that the Nexus and other sub-1000RPM fans don't have. For Yate-Loon in the UK I find Chilled PC excellent. A Nexus Real Silent is a much slower Yate Loon. Speed is cut from 1350RPM to 1000RPM, which makes a lot of difference where noise is concerned. The Yate Loons really must be fitted with a speed controller - then they're a good cheap and versatile fan.
