Thanks. They look expensive, but exactly what I was looking for.

Cooling a CPU the fanless way - Voodoo Epic HTPC m:112i
Hi everybody, hae you seen this? http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1814623,00.asp It is a powerful, yet totally fanless system. That is achieved by coupling the CPU to the case via heatpipes. The CPU is a Pentium M. Does any of you know of any SFF PC that uses this method (or any other) to realiz...

Well, environment is warm here and getting hotter by the hour! 25º (indoor) and climbing. I don't know how hot the NB gets when doing intensive stuff because I get so scared that I stop the process as soon as I hear MBM complaining. Do you really think people that I could let the NB get up to 60 and...

Well, assuming those systems are buit by the OEM carefully enough, so that they will operate safely even in summer... there's nothing more to say. CPUs can be run safely at temps up to 65ºc for long periods. Of course, the cooler below that, the safer. What about the other important chip, the NB? Wh...

OK. I already know that the cooler, the better, and that obsolescence is the main problem with PCs, rather than burnt-out components. I being a silent-geek myself, I am definitely willing to exchange temps for noise. But by how much? That's my problem: now hot can the components safely run? I've hot...

I see the point of MikeC, that's it, that I don't have to care about danger thresholds, since the PC will crash long before it even comes close to them. Anyway, at full load and at idle, for both the CPU and the NB, can anybody tell me what temps are generally considered as "good" temps? If I want t...

What mobo/CPU temps can actually be considered dangerous?
Hi guyz. I have a PIV 2.6/800/512/HT on a Intel D865PERL mobo. I installed Intel's hardware monitoring program Active Monitor which showed 50ºC and 60ºC as danger temps for the northbridge (passively cooled) and the CPU. In Intel's website, the temps specified for the Pentium is 75ºC. Its thermal en...

Pentium Mobile and the futur of silent PCs
Howdy kiddos! There is an old new item in El Reg: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/03/17/intel_plots_4mb_l2_64bit/ So Intel is following the steps of AMD, using the mobile architecture in the desktop market. If you read the power figures, Conroe will be about 90W. That's not a huge improvement, but...

@MikeC: if the industry is in here, it happens in such a silent way, that nobody notice it. I'd like to be able to talk to them or to listen to them. Something visible. It's just having one or two guys visiting the forums dayli or weekly. Every corporation could do it. It's just that they ar not use...

1) Mike, while it is very constructive to think about what manufacturers should do, it is realistic to think about what CAN BE DONE with what we have. The point is to find out the best way to use what there is. Do you know the fanless Silver Stone? Have a look at it at www.dirkvader.de. Like the Sil...

Hello again. Here is a "silent PC planning" that uses much of what has been discussed in this thread. I'd like to read your opinion on it. An easy, yet expensive way to reduce noise even further is to buy a fanless PSU. I am an advocate of fanless PSUs. Of course I don't have empirical proof or user...

I certainly appreciate Rusty075's endeavour to enlight me. I am nothing but an "eternal newbie" as I use to say, and every bit of help is more than welcomed. With this said... While Rusty075's arguments are plausible and most probably right, I have to disagree with him in one point: I would never st...

@Trip: what do you mean? @MikeC: I could use the exhaust vent for intake with a 120mm fan, duct it to the HS, use a 80mm fan on the HS to suck air out of it, and duct the exhausted air to the PSU hole via a second duct, all this leaving part of the PSU hole free for convection. The intake vent would...

@Rusty075: oh my dear boy. You read something worng. I've never said that countercurrent cooling applies in suck mode. Read again, man. As to your points: 1-Yeah the CPU is terribly warm. Why to spread the really hot air coming from the CPU all over the mainboard components, then the HDs, etc? Take ...

Well: 1-non countercurrent cooling: look at the figure in the countercurrent review. (2nd page I think) the cool air is heated up harshly right at the beginning of the heatsink, its hottest section, because of the huge temp difference. This heated air travels all the way, transferring heat back to t...
