Just got a second hand Barracuda IV from ebay, it's so much better it's not true, now the only time I ever hear it is when it's seeking (not bad at all and not really bothersome) or when it has just spun up - slight chugging for a second. Most importantly NO WHINE with the case closed! :) Much happi...

Just checked my smaller 80GB SATA drive, this is a Nidec also and has FDB stamped on it. Its just as noisy as the JVC without FDB stamped on it. I think maybe it comes down to something as simple as the whine is so high pitched that it is only audible/a problem to some people, others just don't noti...

Yeah, this doesn't work for me either, fabool were you running it under windows? If so could you post a screen capture as I just get the same result as dukla, i.e. it scans the 4 IDE channels and says no drive found.

thanks

Maxxymus, I tried this with my pioneer 106 tray loader and it doesn't seem to have any effect :(

Can anyone confirm a DVDROM that they've managed to make run at less than 4x (for audio CDs) using nero?

Has anyone used a silent drive with a noisy SATA samsung, mine is driving me nuts and is a lot worse than I expected from all the reviews.

Do silent drives work ok with SATA drives?

Samsung SATA drives are NOT THAT QUIET

I've just been putting together a HTPC, I've got a silenX PSU (amazing), a Zalman 7000Cu (good) and two spinpoint SATAs (not at all impressed). I wondered initially if it was because the drives were mounted on the floor of the Alu case, but even with taking them off there and having them rest on foa...

Noisy seeks on samsung 80gb sata

As the title really, just installed new drive into new HCPC, drive is mounted directly onto aluminium floor of case and I've got to say the seek noise is awful, really load, not what I was expecting at all. is it to do with how its mounted, does any one else have this problem?

Cheers

SilenX available in the UK

Just got my SilenX 400w PSU from a UK supplier called So Advanced . Would definitely recommend both the PSU and the supplier, very good service. Not cheap but if you want a REALLY silent PSU then this has to be the best. When I'd read comments from people saying they could barely hear it when it cam...

SilenX PSU in the UK

Has anyone bought one of these from a UK supplier? WOuld you recommend them? I know I can order from the US, but I'd prefer it to come from this country in case of any problems.

Cheers,

I would also really like to know if there's a simple windows program that can power down HDs individually, I would quite like to see (hear) which of my drives is the biggest noise culprit and this would seem the easiest way. I believe there is such a thing for linux, but can't seem to find any for w...

Like Urban voyeur says, have a look at the BIOS reading of the CPU temp, that'll tell you whether you're looking at the right sensor in MBM. I have an MSI MB which has 3 sensors, one CPU, one MB and one spurious one which no-one seems to know what it does (this reads 10-15 degrees more than my CPU t...

it's definitely a micro atx PSU, here's the dimensions from the sparkle site:

81.5x40.5x150mm

It's such a shame that they've crippled this beautiful case in this way :(

Powerful micro ATX PSU?

I have just seen this Dign case, which looks great. The problem is that it only has space for a micro ATX PSU. Is it possible to get a >300W PSU of this size that's also quiet?

Zalman multi fan controller

Just had one of these delivered from Overclockers for £35 and I'd just like to say how pleased I am with it. It's great value for money (four fanmates would've cost me about £40 here in the UK and I wouldn't have been able to alter any speeds without opening the case). It's been nice and simple to r...

OK, what I am trying to understand is this: If I want to undervolt a PSU fan where do I connect it to get the 7v? Do I have to run wires outside the PSU and have it come from one of the 4 pin molex plugs or is there a way to do it all inside the PSU? If it can be done inside the PSU what needs to be...

Thanks

Hi shuriken, I bought the QTec presicely because they are so cheap, it's for my main pc not my planned HTPC so it didn't need to be silent. I've tried searching for this but without much luck, can anyone point me in the direction of the following info? 1) What is the best way to replace the two noisy fans in the Q-Tec 550W PSU? swap for two new ones, swap for one new one and cover/don't cover the intake? 2) How do you undervolt PSU fans...

I have a Zalman flower heatsink on my AMD 1600+, this sits just below the air intake on my (currently quite noisy) 2-fan Q-Tec PSU, the case I have has one exhaust fan mounted on the side panel (right in the middle) blowing out of the case. My question is which is the best way for my CPU fan to blow...

I emailed Peter Kim at SilenX about getting a 14dB 400w PSU to the UK, he quoted delivery charges of between $27 (4-6 weeks) and $44.75 (3-5 days), but emntioned that if you fill in a customer survey afterwards then you get a rebate of $10. For the quickest delivery you'd be talking about a total of...
