A personal tragedy

Fellow folders:
I recently hit a much anticipated 100,000 points! I was looking forward to sharing this accomplishment here on the forums, but my family has just suffered a terrible loss.
Please visit this thread for details.

Thanks to Mike for permission for this post.

Alienware ALX

Anyone know anything about the Alienware ALX? Nice to see another prebuilt system incorporating liquid cooling. The word "quiet" is actually used in their marketing!

(Some questions are better left unasked. Now adding multiple TV cards to the wish list.)

FJC -- Sweet HTPC. The fruits of your labor are very encouraging -- especially the favorable looks (gotta keep the wife happy) v. noise (I gotta be happy) ratio.

Forgive the slightly OT, but I'll be an HTPC n00b eventually (several HTPC projects indefinitely on hold).

I have to ask: What's the advantage of having two PVR-250 TV cards?

I checked and I did have my onboard SiI3112a SATA controller set to BASIC when I successfully ran the HFT to enable AAM, but I have since changed it to RAID, and the HFT detects and works on my SATA cudaV either way. Sorry you guys are having trouble with it :( . . .

I've got the 80GB cudaV SATA with AAM enabled, and I think it's every bit as quiet as my IBM/Hitachi 40GB 120GXP and 80GB 180GXP drives also with AAM enabled. They're not silent, but I think they're very quiet. One negative about the cudaV, though -- it runs pretty hot. I don't have temps on it, but...

I've got my cudaV hooked up to my onboard SATA RAID controller on my GA-7VAXP Ultra and was able to enable/disable AAM. As I recall, I had to wait forever because I think the Hitachi Feature Tool was looking for my second SATA device (I had none). Come to think of it, I think I can declare my SATA c...

aphonos -- thanks for the cya -- you can never be too careful. We own the machines -- we're just setup in a weird bureaucratic hierarchy that somehow keeps my section out of the login script loop. Okay, we need another push forward. I'll step up as much as I can. I can add several machines to the effort if I can work out a good solution... I've looked around a lot and found that lots of folks want to do what I need to do, and apparently some folks have figured this out, but none of them have ...

Well, it seems obvious to me that what you should try is: everything! I would probably try removing both fans and popping in a 80mm L1A. Check temperatures and make sure everything's 'cool'. If you need more, I'd try a 80mm M1A instead. Personally, I'd stop there if I wasn't satisfied the PSU was ge...

I don't understand why LEDs aren't more popular for this purpose. They're not a fragile as the cold cathodes, are much easier to place, and much cheaper. I'd just setup a bunch in different parts of your case (you could eliminate all shadows) -- or maybe just set them up in clusters. There's also "L...
