Re: Solo, Solo II or Define R4 for new gaming rig with GTX 7

I tried measuring my Solo, from the top of one of the capacitors to the inside of the outer frame. Bit hard to do on a running computer, but it looked to be about 163mm. Given that the HR-02 is 161mm, and that where it sits is probably a millimeter or two below the top of a capacitor, I'm hoping it ...

Re: 120mm intake fan recommendations?

Compare S12A PWM speeds (left column) with your fan on your CPU heatsink. Right column shows voltage control speeds. If 660RPM is low enough for you anyway (it should be, looking at your system specs), buy PWM version and run it either way it fits you (PWM or voltage). At that speeds all quality fa...

Re: 120mm intake fan recommendations?

Yes, I am running two S12A PWM fans off the Z87 Pro CPU_OPT header and it works absolutely OK. Thanks, good to know. What cooler are you using? As axee reminded me below, the performance of the CPU fan affects the case fans, so if it only starts spinning at a fairly high percentage, the case fans w...

Re: 120mm intake fan recommendations?

Thanks for the response. given that you are dealing with front fan intakes which are more noise-sensitive it might be worth considering the NF-S12A PWM. This fan is supplied with a PWM Y adapter and a PWM extension cable. It would be feasible using the Y adapter and extension cables to run two of th...

120mm intake fan recommendations?

These would be for the front intakes on an Antec Solo II, with an Asus Z87 Pro, GTX 780 and i7-4770K. So fairly hot components, which means I think I’ll need both front fans running. I’m trying to understand the differences between these Noctua fans: NF-S12A ULN: http://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NF-S12A...

Guru 3D saw 544W peak at the wall with a PSU that's ~90% efficient at that load and with a Core i7 3960 Extreme @ 4.6 GHz. So, yeah, call it 500W for the PSU load. A 750W PSU is enough. The caveat is: take a look at the fan rpm/noise profiles. A 750W PSU's fan will be ramping up at this load...but ...

If going with SLI is something as a foreseeable option, given such an hungry card a PSU over 700W is IMVHO to be preferred. Based on the Guru 3d review, a 780 SLI setup would need around 500W for the GPUs. So would a 750W PSU be enough to handle that plus a Core i7? About Corsair RM-series, as many...

Obviously, those are all different wattages, but they seem to be the lowest available in each product line. As I understand it, they’re also all hybrid models, which I think will be important for idle noise given the PSU position in the Solo II. The machine will likely include: Antec Solo II Asus Z8...

Re: Solo, Solo II or Define R4 for new gaming rig with GTX 7

Well, no: actually the Solo may host taller heatsink than the R4 does (174mm for the Solo, 170mm for the Fractal). I guess I should've checked, but I'd assumed the R4 would have more head room, just because it's so much wider. At any rate, the PSU placement and the larger volume could account for b...

I recently acquired a z87-PLUS and an pretty happy with it. It meets all your listed requirements.
