I guess the solution to this in the end is for laptop manufacturers to start making aluminum cased laptops. won't be cheap though. plastic is so much cheaper and stronger. would be interesting to see them make a case that works like the zalman tnn. maybe apple??? they are having lots of issues with ...

I tried the sauce pot, complete with copper bottom and it may have worked, but it simply raised the height of the laptop to a point that made it impractical for me. however, I did find a large sheet of aluminum in the form of a road sign. it works, but I think a sheet of copper would work better for...

buying a sheet of copper or aluminum and simply placing the laptop on top of that? I'm trying it with aluminum foil and it already has dropped the temperature considerably.

Yeah, I was going to write "why don't they make an aluminum version?" then I looked just to make sure... In comparison, the thermalright 800 is about 500g which is pretty decent in comparison. The Zalman heatsink seemed to have most of it's weight in the base, because the fins have cut outs.. It was...

You know what? I'm going to apologize... The xbox is very loud!

I turned it on late at night when the house is quiet with no ambient noise and I was blown away about how loud that thing is.

So, the question is, has anyone modded the xbox?

Heatsink weights

I picked up a zalman ZM6568CE-Cu heatsink yesterday at CompUSA and I couldn't believe how heavy it was. The only way I would install that on my CPU was if the motherboard was always laying flat. If you have a tower, and therefore have the motherboard in an upright position, it seems like a lot of we...

Well, I tried out that Nidec fan (see specs above) and it does have a seemingly high CFM and considering how much air it's blowing it's somewhat quiet by itself I'm assuming that the noise it generated inside my PSU was because of the turbulence and it's general higher speed etc. None the less, the ...

the fan on the sapphire comes off real easy. two small jeweler screws and it pops right out of it's heat sink. there's a label over the top of the heatsink/fan assembly which hides a screw that allows you to really get at the fan. I didn't lift the sticker/label because I don't want to void my warra...

I have a first generation day one XBox and it's not that loud. there's a fan, but it just makes the low level moving air sound. the HD is rarely accessed, so there's no noise there. the dvd player is not noisy either... the GPU is passively cooled so no noise there. maybe you have a defective fan in...
