Only second hand information (as I'm interested in this model too) It sounds awful on max, and yes it turns the fans on and of in a very annoying manner. But from what I have read, it supports i8kfangui (Google!), which helps to reduce the problem somewhat. But even in idle the fans need to spin (sl...

Although my stuff is much older than what’s mentioned in the article,
it still occurs approximately 1 out of 10 cold starts.

I will try the resistor/cap fix.

Interesting read nevertheless!

Going back to main topic: I tried 3 fans (ADDA, Globe, Panaflo) until I went for the Nexus. What a waste of time! Why didn't I start with the Nexus? Anyway, it seems to be the perfect companion for the vf-700. I've had my system untouched for the last 6 months, and I'm very satisfied with noise leve...

That’s 50W AC. Subtract the inefficiency of the PSU and you are closer
to the difference reported by xbitlabs

The Leadtek is about as noisy as the VF-700cu at 12V, but performs much worse.

I can only relate to Nvidias GF4x00ti reference cooler, (don't know anything about Albatron 4800)
which produce slightly less noise than Leadtek's HSF.

First, search other forums for OC related stuff. (like anandtech forums or ocforums) 1. Zalman fanmate, any type 2. You will never know until you try, but as a rule of thumb: If your CPU doesn't overclock decently using the stock cooler it's no good anyway. More exotic coolers can be used to lower t...

Seems to cool very well but it'll probably be pricey compared to a VF700. And heatsinks for the memory chips seem to be almost impossible to attach. Good initiative by Thermalright though and it'll look good beside their other products :) And if you'll decide to make a fan swap you'll probably get ...

Why do you think you need more power?
How did you locate the source of the instability to your PSU?

Your system is in the 120-130W DC range, I can't see why
a 300W PSU shouldn't be able to handle that.

I have read some complaints about Tagan, search the forum!

Successfully replaced fan in ST400

I just replaced a slightly clicking D12SM with a Papst 4412F/2GL in my Super Tornado 400 A3. I first intended to install a Nexus, but since it's a low speed fan I didn't like the idea of powering it from the PSU's fan regulator. So I tried the Papst instead, with a similar spec to the original fan. ...

The performance improvement is neglectable, despite replacing the 15mm thick fan with a 25mm L1a. However it's much easier to your ear. My problem is that I simply cannot find a good 80mm fan here. Bought a few chinaflows but were not impressed, tried a few other fans (globe, papst) but ended up wit...

I could reach 2.2GHz with CnQ. But 2.4GHz requires 1.5V and thus
disabling CnQ on my particular board (ASUS A8V)

But I have to admit I'm doing it for fun, since it doesn't increase the
overall noise level. The gaming advantage usually isn't noticeable.

I have another concern about the choice of a potentiometer: Carbon potentiometers can usually only handle 0.2-0.4W, making them not so good for fan regulation. Cermet potentiometers are almost as inexpensive and can handle 1-2W. Good enough for low speed fans. Wire wound potentiometers have the high...
