Thank you guys for your answers! Gooserider, I do agree with your point re. air conduction vs radiation below, whivch probably makes the whole debate meaningless. I really doubt that you would see ANY measurable difference in practice. Among other reasons is that the amount of radiant heat dissipate...

Hi All! OK, black paint does look good, but I was wondering if it could also have some positive case cooling effect? We all know that (by definition) black color absorbs most radiations (including infra reds, ie heat). So it seems logical to say that painting the inside of your case in black would a...

Hi! Did anyone experiment some sort of electrical damage (not thermal) after unplugging the whinny fan? My GF4 died after 5 months of unplugged fan operation (although it was well cooled by a 80mm S2, powered directly from the PSU instead of via the card). When it died, I saw no artefacts (like ever...

Hi guys! Happy new year! Well done Pangit! ... you really had a LOT of time to do all this, plus the time and pain to document it in your revamped site (nice as well)! Pretty neat mod, my favourite being the twisted fan blowing toward the passive GPU heatsink. Yes, next big test could be to remove t...

Re. heat rising, it's actually hot air which rises, while heat radiates in an omnidirectional way. Since the HDD drive is pretty packed inside, there is almost no air inside to convey heat bottom up. So my guess is that the hotter face will always be the one which produces the more heat (in my case ...

Hi! Good to see your still on the experiment side Pangit! The setup should definitely work. - Re. fan position: yes, it does work (I have a similar set up, with a ghetto fan mount alsmot in the same place as you. The good thing is that this 80mm fan is also cooling my Geforce4! (I have posted this a...

Ok, I did it: tested the "cpu fan perpendicular to mobo way"! Thanks Pangit for the idea and encouragements! Objective: - Here is the initial set up: what matter here is the cpu fan and Heatsink: Taisol Aqua HS, with 60mm fan replaced by 80mm Noiseblocker S4 on 60->80 adpater: http://monsite.wanadoo...

It indeed comes very close to the exhaust fan, but that's one of the caveat of my Mobo. On the other end, it was a good way for me to stop exhaust and cpu fans to interfer. Eventually, I got rid of this duct for this and other reasons: it bloked too much volume in the case, resonates a bit, not to m...

Sorry for the small pics, I agree it's difficult to check details... Here is another shot, but could not make it bigger... Will have to rework this tonight! http://monsite.wanadoo.fr/fldweb/images/2-picture2.gif?0.9493015028802747 Basically, the top of the bottle makes the top of the duct: I cut the...

OK, here is a picture of my TI4200 cooled with a 80mm Noiseblocker S2: http://monsite.wanadoo.fr/fldweb/images/2-picture3.gif?0.10915182814089563 I simply unplugged the stock 45mm noisy fan, leaving it where it on the rad. I like the Zalman 123 bracket approach, but thought a 45° angle between the f...

Ok, I finally found a way to publish some pics... So here it is, my famous Plastic coke bottle ducting: http://monsite.wanadoo.fr/fldweb/images/2-picture1.gif?0.4076373639218194 This thing is taking air from above the HDD and safely convey it up to the CPU fan. Hi! Did anybody try to remove the PSU rear 80 fan, just leaving the 92mm belly fan? (option 3 above?) Depending on how stuff are set up inside the PSU, the 92mm might be able to blow air all the way to the rear hole (now that you have removed the rear fan). Might result in less turbulence at the rear.

Happens to me from time to time (after I do some modding). Not a big issue though, as moving the rack a bit ( and securing the bottom thunmbscrew) always fixed it. Thx Pangit! Nice page you have! I do agree the cheapo way is by far the most interesting one (as I think most SPCR friends do)! Re. Pangit, Did you finally experimented any of the proposed solutions (reverse flow or small cover for the "Across" solution?). Hi! I just faced the same "fan vs card angle" question, and finally went for a home-made "suspended" fan (inspired from Zalman 123 fixation system), blowing 45° upward the lower side of the rad. which would be better, a fan mounted at right angles to the card, blowing over both sides, - My GF4 is sa...

Just to add a small story I had with the 3700 grommets. I am pretty happy with them, as I don't hear my IBM 80Go HDD, although it is known to be noisy. Then, after some modding (suspended 80mm fan on GF4 4200), I closed the case, and a new, low frequency but loud HUUUMMMM came up. The whole case was...

Hi! FYI, I just mounted 2 80mm S2 inthere, removing the Antec 120 adapter. Removing isolators: tried alcoolic window cleaning liquid?
If soapy water is not enough, I would suggest trying one of these liquids you spray on windows to clean them. That's a well known mountain-biker's trick, which works perfectly to remove rubber handles from the bike's handlebar. It seems the alcool these liquids contain temporarily (10-15 sec) releas...

Hi! Well, I followed the advice, and bought the SLK 3700. Great case!!! I am now thinking at making even more silent (never ending story as we all know :-)).
