Interesting; I just read an article on Anandtech claiming that the Duo Core has battery life comparable to the previous Pentium M chips. So I was optimistic that it might be just as quiet. There is also a Core Solo chip, which uses the newer technology of the Due Core, but with just a single core, i...

Hmm, your case has a window, do you care about aesthetics? What I did in a similar situation was make the duct out of paper. Not normal paper, something slightly stiffer, and I used duct tape to attach it to the case. It's ugly, but it works. You could make one out of paper just to test the id...

When I installed it, it wasn't touching the cage. Maybe it was very close though, and oscillations from normal use would cause it to touch. I think it might have been the heatsink vibrating against the harddrive.

Unexpected results for hard drive heatsink/suspension

My computer had 3 fans: PSU (Super Silencer 350) CPU heatsink. The heatsink is by Alpha, so this fan sucks air from the heatsink and then exhausts it from the case through a duct. This fan is controlled by Speedfan. Hard drive. This fan was controlled by Speedfan. The hard drive is decoupled by grom...

My Belkin UPS (1000VA, I think) is usually silent, but occasionally makes a buzzing noise that's only audible if you're right next to the UPS.

Well, when AC is down and it's running off of battery, then it buzzes constantly and also beeps at you every 5 seconds.

Re: Galvanic Corrosion for muppets: Impress your friends!

A word of warning though: if you protect your anodic metal (by painting it, for example) and a small area of the paint is damaged, then you are left with an exposed anodic metal of much smaller surface area than the cathode, which means that it will corrode particularly quickly at the site of the c...

One problem with the Tornado is that, depending on the layout of your motherboard, it might interfere with the CPU HSF. On my PC, the CPU HSF is very close to the PSU, so with a Tornado, I'd have nearly half of the fan intake area blocked off. That's why I went with the Silencer.

Thanks.

My plan is to use the Evercase's side "snorkel" with an 80 mm fan right on the heatsink. That fan and the Seasonic PSU's 120 mm fans will provide exhaust for the case.

I'm really crossing my fingers that I can get away with just those 2 fans for the whole PC.

Juggling the airflow demands of the CPU and PSU

For a PC that I need to build soon, I'm considering using an Alpha 8055, and then ducting that output to the side vents on this Evercase 4252 . I also want to use a Seasonic Tornado PSU, which has a bottom mounted 120 mm fan. Will I run into problems by having the PSU suck from the bottom when the C...

All i can say is that the nf7 is an absolutely brilliant motherboard, the drivers are very stable, and it's great for volt adjustments. Yes, I am going to buy a real soundcard, but I'm not yet sure which one yet. For a HSF I'll probably get whatever Thermalright or Zalman is available at a good price when I make my order, and I'll probably spend around $30-$35 on that. Ok, so I'll probably stick with a 9200 or so. My last desktop ha...
