Re: Scythe Ninja 4: A Legend Reborn

I too am curious how it compares to other "fanless" advertised CPU coolers like the thermalright macho and that one heatsink from silverstone that I forget the name of. Any chance this data can be collected and added to the review? Thanks for the review nonetheless. Sounds like a resurgence of the o...

Re: Mike's final sign-off - POSTPONED

Hi Mike, I've been popping in and out of SPCR for years even after I started buying prebuilt Apple computers (making it much more difficult to tweak my system for lower noise) but I always visit at least a few times every year. It is sad, although postponed, to hear that you are almost retiring from...

Re: WD My Passport Essential SE 1TB USB 3.0 External HDD

Somewhat dissapointingly, I do believe WD JUST released their newer model of this drive, possibly rendering this review less useful. I'm not sure so don't quote me on this, but I think they now have 500gb platters, so the 1TB model is now just 2 platters. As a result, it is thinner than the model re...

Re: Is it illegal to download free remixes?

Thanks for the suggestion, ces, as well as colm for the reply. Was merely curious, thought I'd chat it up in SPCR's 'pub'. To be totally honest I cannot be bothered to go to the trouble of properly finding out a definitive answer. I do download them occasionally and I rarely look back. I figure if t...

Is it illegal to download free remixes?

Wondering about the legality of downloading and keeping freely distributed remixes of tracks where the original costs money. I assume its technically illegal but am not totally sure, since so many remixes of songs exist out there AND often are sold on the market.

Galaxy Tab vs iPad: Aluminum vs Plastic, strength & weight.

I recently posted a comment on a video on youtube about the Galaxy Tab vs the iPad. Ignoring other details, I did mention the iPad has a much bigger screen, but weighs nearly twice as much as a result. I got the following reply: @gxcad iPad is mainly heavier because its made of aluminium where as t...

Must say I too, preferred the old theme. But perhaps we will get used to the new one? I can tell there are some things I DO like. I for one, like the names on the right. I don't care about who posts something until I read the actual post, and my eyes naturally go left first. Some may not like it, I ...

If you are looking for a quiet monitor (as in minimal buzz), may I suggest trying the older 20 inch (or 23 inch if price permits) Apple aluminum cinema display (non glossy CCFL backlit model). Its a completely sealed design with no vents of any kind. It was also completely void of any noise at all -...

Just in case anyone else considered this, I want to put my conclusion for closure after looking into this for (too many) hours: Unless you need more than 1TB, go for a 2.5 1TB solution. WD seems to make one for ~$125. Suppose the 3.5 green drive powered by firewire idea did work, thats roughly $70 f...

Possible to have WD 3.5 green drive powered by firewire bus?

I did a search with no useful info. I am wondering if it is possible to power a 3.5 inch drive (specifically, a 1TB ~ 2TB green drive) with a firewire enclosure, powered only by the firewire bus? I've read the firewire bus provides between 6-15W of power, though that was only from one random google ...

Hooking up PS2 to 30 inch dual DVI display?

Hi guys, I have a question that I was hoping some of you know the answer to.

This question has 2 parts:

How to hook up a PS2 to a DVI LCD monitor so that it works?

Does this also work for a display with 2560x1600 resolution?

Thanks for any help!

you can get soft rubbery feet (often made of deflex) for audio equipment, could get some of them for it to sit on, and depending on clearence, maybe get some soundproofing inside.. I agree with this idea - allows the airflow under the unit while simultaneously reducing vibration. I also agree with ...

Socket A cpu's are so cheap now that I think you might as well just get the 3200+ barton since it is most likely to undervolt and underclock the best (due to it being the highest clocked Socket A cpu available). Bartons are clock for clock better than the thoroughbreds due to the 512k cache, and are...

Like mentioned, a good fanless heatsink HAS to be big. Heatsink size and performance go almost hand in hand. The Ninja is IMHO one of the best choices possible for a fanless heatsink, but you're basically looking for size as well as liberally spaced fins. If there are tons and tons of tiny fins pack...

The other thing about them touching is that the heat transfer WON'T be that efficient. although they will now be physically touching, there is no flat surfaces or thermal compound to assist in the transfer. In the end the difference will be negligible, if even that. At least I think so. Hey I got an...

I personally don't see why you'd need to worry from a thermal standpoint. If the heatsinks were connected, yes there would be heat from the videocard going to the cpu heatsink at a much greater efficiency, but remember if they were touching the size of the heatsink also increases. Well, not exactly ...
