Re: ASUS Maximus VI Impact: Enthusiast Mini-ITX Motherboard

I wish Asus would allow (in all their recent boards, not just this one) lower fan speeds, and it should be allowable in the UEFI BIOS. I don't like add-on programs for fan speed.

I'm surprised they didn't go with all-solid capacitors for this board.

tal.aloni - I use a nibbler hand tool whenever I need to make cuts. To keep the edges smooth, I follow up with sanding. I mask surrounding areas with masking tape to make sure I don't add "work marks" to the metal during both nibbling and filing. Also, all electronics are removed when cutting/filing...

Re: Fractal Design Node 304 Mini-ITX Case

Nice review! I have five hard drives and one SSD in my Node 304. I really cleaned up my wiring by creating my own custom SATA power cable, eliminating excess cable length between each connector. I also went with SATA data cables as short as needed for each drive. I noticed one error in the review - ...

Re: Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced Mini-ITX Case

I have run some tests on my own Elite 120 with and without the faceplate. There is definitely a difference. I am running a Xeon E3-1230 V2 (4 cores, 8 threads total) with a Thermalright AXP-140 (power supply is an external power brick to make this happen). At the moment, I am running with only two f...

Re: bulging capacitor still problem?

I make sure to buy motherboards with metal capacitors. Most recently, I used an ASRock and it uses all metal capacitors. I have mostly been doing the same. Anything without 100% solid capacitors I normally ignore. However, when doing some builds where I wanted good performance with low idle power c...

Re: josephclemente's SilverStone SG05 MINI ITX + fanless ATX

Hello macuso, Welcome to SPCR! If the power supply is lowered, there would be a gap above it where the existing opening is located. You could probably add some mesh or aluminum to seal this gap. The power supply is 2.75" above the motherboard. It is about 1.375" above the Antec Kuhler's water block....

Thanks for the nice comments! The pump and fan noise is very low. Audible, but low enough where I often mistake the computer for being off. The fan and pump speed is controlled by the motherboard in BIOS. Too slow and the pump makes a light clicking noise. So I have the speed up a few notches from t...

Re: josephclemente's Lian Li PC-Q11B + Suck hole-cooled HD 6

I haven't spent much time with the stock fan. I had a different motherboard when I first set everything up. That particular motherboard's fan control had the stock fan at higher speeds than I wanted. I didn't try any other 140mm fans, so I can't compare. The 140mm NB is pleasing during normal usage....

That is correct - the AXP-140 heatpipes are on the same side as the video card. Very close but nowhere near close enough for anything to touch, even with possible video card flexing.

Re: Silverstone GD04/05 - Remove dust filters?

I have removed the filters from my GD05. Filters are restrictive enough - the honeycomb plastic doesn't help. Also, the filters are difficult to access for cleaning. My plan is to just blow compressed air in the case when needed (so far not yet). Most of the time my HTPC/File Server is sleeping - I ...

Re: Asrock H67M-ITX/HT as HTPC board?

Also to update a problem I reported with this motherboard earlier in the thread. Looks like a temperature sensor somewhere on the motherboard was telling the CPU to throttle. I flipped the CPU fan around so it is pulling air out of the heatsink, rather than blowing into it. Now I can run Prime95 all...

I don't see anything that will allow undervolting. Any voltages that can be changed appear to be for increasing voltage, and only slightly. The only voltage I see that can go up or down is for the memory modules.

This board won't switch the fans off. It will just keep them running at a low speed and the speed starts to increase when the temperature goes above the "desired temperature" setting.

Re: Asrock H67M-ITX/HT as HTPC board?

Also are there any detailed fan control settings in the bios? I find it really lame when all you get is an option of smart fan temps or not, and no fine grain choices. You can assign a "level" to each fan individually. Level 1 is the slowest and level 9 the fastest. Both of my fans are set to level...

Re: Asrock H67M-ITX/HT as HTPC board?

I have the non "/HT" version of this board, same thing but without the remote and wireless. I like how the 3-pin case fan header speed can change based on the CPU temperature. I like this better than boards that adjust the case fan speed based on some motherboard temperature. The CPU fan header need...

I am using option #2 and like it a lot. I made mine look a bit cleaner by removing the left-side button and right-side esata port. Also sanded off the Antec logo. Filled the holes with bondo and painted.

I like being able to do backups without adding cables or external power bricks.

Re: Improving airflow in Lian Li PC-A05

I tried the 140mm BS-06 first before deciding to mod my top panel.

The BS-06 didn't improve my temperatures, no matter what direction the fan was pointing. At that time I had an HR-03 with a fan on my HD 5850 video card.
