Re: 140 mm Fan Roundup: Noctua, Phanteks, Xigmatek

oldabelincoln : good catch. The model SPCR reviewed appears to come only with the PH-TC14PE cooler (80+ USD), even outside of the U.S. :( I'm not completely certain, but post #2 on http://www.overclock.net/t/1382743/lab501-phanteks-ph-tc14-vs-noctua-nh-d14-review seems to indicate that the SPCR rev...

I happily went off to buy som Phanteks PH-F140TS fans, based on the review. But everywhere I looked, the fan struts shown on retail sites and on the Phanteks site show STRAIGHT struts joined at the outer tip to make an open 3-pointed star! 4) THE S2 HAS NO ADDITIONAL ROOM ON THE RIGHT SIDE FOR CABLE MANAGEMENT. True, with so many detachable cable PSUs to choose from, this can't be a huge issue unless you populate all the slots and need to run all the cables. A slightly different take...

While I don't like the Solo II, I was a bit surprised at the issues that were NOT raised in discussion so far. I've done 4 Solo/ P-150 builds, each for a different user, which makes for a fairly varied perspective. To save typing, I'll call the original "S1" and the Solo II, "S2". 1) WHERE DOES YOUR...

Re: Conflict Between Tall RAM and CPU Heatseak- try the HR-0

I certainly agree with other comments about tall memory sticks. They are pretty pointless, but if you must use them, the Thermalright HR02 is probably your best bet. It is offset towards the back of the case so that the fan should clear the memory. I've not used one, by have a build with the HR01+, ...

My main concern about the Prolimatech was about the possibility of the fins hitting the Solo's crossbar in the north - south direction, a serious issue on 775 boards in a Solo, and the main reason I used an HR-01 in the 775 system in my sig, rather than a TRUE. I had had no trouble with the Scythe 1...

The Solo is just fine for the new P55 boards. Ventilation is more than adequate - the P55s chipset runs cool - and you can expect very good temperatures on the board with almost any reasonable fan setup. The CPU socket location is very good, and you can use large CPU heatsinks without hitting the So...

The short form: Prolimatech stands behind their product with excerllent customer service in spite of having no local presence in my country. The details: I'm building a system for my brother-in-law, based on a I7 860 on a socket 1156 P55 mobo. I'm more than happy with the Thermalright HR-01+ CPU hea...

Just a story to emphasize the point - already made many times - that noise is always relative and is always personal. At the time this took place, I was in my mid 30's and could not hear above 13 kHz. In the mid 70s I had to evaluate various alphanumeric CRT terminals - we were looking for something...

Cooling an LGA1156 in a Solo with Thermalright

I've read here and elsewhere that a Thermalright TRUE doesn't quite fit with an LGA 775 board in a Solo case, because of the case's crossbar under the PSU. Accordingly, I used an HR01+ in building a system with a Q9300 on a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P in a Solo case (the system in the sig); It works fine, an...

If you have to get an Antec PSU due to availability, try to get something from the NeoPower range, or (while it is clearly far too large a power supply for your proposed system) the Antec Signature 650, which is very quiet at low power usage. Have a look at the Recommended Section of the main site ...

But I think case should not be trashed simply by the looks. Why not? If a case is sufficiently noisy we feel righteous for trashing it, as we wouldn't buy it because of the noise. So if a case is sufficiently ugly, and we wouldn't buy it beacuse we don't like its looks, it seems reasonable to me to...

Modulat, straight-through quiet PSU?

I've been very happy with the Antec NeoHE and NeoPower PSUs. My builds have yet to run more than 110W at the AC power meter, so I'm fine with the 430 or 500, which were easier to find than the 380. My vision is not great, and I usually increase the text size on most web pages, including SPCR.
