The only 7600 GS I could find about 1.5 years ago with two DVI outputs was made by XFX and it has worked well for me driving two 20" LCDs at 1600x1200 each. I'm building a new system most likely with the 8600 GT and I'm thinking about adding a 3rd LCD which would require another video card, so I'm e...

Any idea how a 7600 GS and 8600 GT compare in power draw and heat dissipation? I have a 7600 GS and I'm pretty happy with it idling at around 65C but I'm thinking about putting a 8600 GT in a new system. I can't seem to find a good comparison between the two even though the 8600 GT seems a logical n...

Quiet 3x DVI output Video?

I'm building a new system and I'm thinking about making it a 3 LCD setup. I have a XFX 7600 GS in my current system and I'm thinking about an ASUS EN8600GT for the new one. Both have dual DVI outputs... I would like to add a 2nd card to the new system to add a 3rd monitor connected through DVI. What...

I have been looking at the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme... would this work with a Noctua 120mm 800 RPM fan? Would a 1,200 RPM one be better to avoid using a rear case fan? The reason I have 3 drives is that I want to put 2 in RAID0. I use the 3rd one as storage with a backup program. I'm hooked on...

My next system, please comment

About a year and a half ago I built this somewhat quiet system thanks to SPCR. To sum it up, Antec P150 Case, Abit AT8 motherboard, AMD X2 3800+ CPU, 2x 1GB G.Skill DDR500, Thermal Take Big Typhoon "LSF", 3x Samsung 250GB SATA HD, Nexus 92mm Real Silent Front Case Fan, XFX 7600GS Video card, 2x 20" ...

I have a XFX 7600GS dual DVI card hooked to two Dell 2001FP LCDs, both through DVI without any issues.

See more at http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=30402

Average temperature is 65C at idle in a hot room, I haven't done any stress testing though.

Just my two cents,

Not "quietness" related, but I wouldn't recommend the ABIT AT8 if you plan to use SATA RAID.

Even with the latest BIOS and latest drivers, there is a RAID0 data corruption issue.

To make matters worse, ABIT technical support is using the "ignore-them-and-they-will-go-away" tactic

inti, you're welcome. It's good to hear my adventures are sometimes useful. I'm very happy with the 7600GS. I hooked up two 20" Dell 2001FP's through DVI and the resulting 3200x1200 desktop looks impressive. I had to add one PCI card below the 7600GS so now I only have one open slot next to the card...

Stock AMD X2 3800+ fan?

My first attempt at a more silent system has created an interest with my friends, and one of them would like me to build a system. She is a little more on a budget than I was, so I would like to use the stock fan that comes with an AMD X2 3800+ CPU. Simpe question... how loud/quiet is the stock fan?...

Now I actually have the card, turning off "hide modes that this monitor can't display", it shows 1600x1024 in the list, but not 1600x1050.

Software version 82.91.

That's good to hear, "there is a lot of margin left", just the way I like it. The loudest thing right now is probably the P150 rear fan (tri cool?) set to "low" which I think is about 1,200 RPM. I'd like to replace that 120mm fan with something more quiet that runs at about 1,000 RPM. Another idea i...

diver, I don't want to turn off the front intake fan because it cools the 3 harddrives. I removed a slot cover just below the video card and closed the sides of the case, and the idle temperature dropped to about 58C. qviri, the temperature display software shows 125C as the point where it starts to slow the clock down, so you are probably correct that 100C is an acceptable operating temperature. The voltage required to light a blue LED is higher than that of a red or green LED.

Red, green, yellow, etc require approximately 2V, while a blue one requires over 3V.

Thanks jaganath, I've read the (lengthy) threads on the Neo issues.

I'm hoping with 3 harddrives and all the other stuff I will not have any issues.

If I run into a problem I can add a load or even design something that will draw some current only during startup.

I have a Big Typhoon for the CPU.

From what I have been reading, if you do not want to overlock, the 3800 is a somewhat better choice.

Of course cheaper is always good :)

You're right kenji, I posted here before I read most of the memory thread on the HARDOCP site. Thanks for all your input.

The (semi) final verdict is:

2GB G.SKILL Extreme DDR 500 $157

ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard $157

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ $295
