Re: Corsair 550D I5 3570K Asus GTX670

No PWM but I believe fan xpert2 supports voltage control on 3pin fans so you are getting a similar effect on the CPU fan in that the voltage is adjusted downward at idle and upward upon load. The problem is that you are limited to 750rpm at max while a good PWM fan like the Scythe will idle at an in...

Re: Quiet / Noisy Monitor Survey

FWIW my HP 2475 is silent only if brightness is at least 80, otherwise it makes electronic noise. Since 80 brightness was murdering my eyes, I had to set desktop brightness to minimum from CCC. Well, my HP LP2475w has developed a very low level buzz above 50% brightness that is only able to be hear...

Re: Corsair 550D I5 3570K Asus GTX670

Given your choice of motherboard, using a fixed rpm fan makes no sense. You should be using PWM fans with fan xpert2; that way the fans are quiet at idle and can ramp up as necessary under load. From my experience, the Scythe 120mm PWM mid speed fan here works very well with such an arrangement: htt...

If you are going to watercool, the eVGA 670 FTW also works as it is on a 680 PCB as well while also being a nice black PCB.

I know I'm responding to my own post but I wanted to bump this in case people are still interested in Asus Fan Control Software Options. As everyone knows, the problem with the Fan Xpert2 software is that it appears to be limited to controlling fans in relation to CPU temp only. Note that the Sabert...

Re: Super silent graphic cards!

Yes, it's called listening.. Indeed: but you are able to know how loud a cooler *is* immediately, without having never listen to it, just by reading some data about rpm. First, let's get the facts straight. I know what a pair of 92mm fans rotating at 1,100 rpm sounds like since I have a Sapphire 79...

That said which is the best 120mm PWM fan for heatsink for SPCR standards? The 800 rpm Gentle Typhoon looks like a can't lose choice. Just plug it in and run it at a regular 12 volts. It is both quiet... and has good static pressure performance. Also a good selection and it should be able to be vol...

Re: Super silent graphic cards!

Different thresholds as to what constitutes acceptably quiet. Indeed: there are thresholds you can appreciate on paper, and others which can be appreciated through the air. Yes, it's called listening. What is quiet to the ears of one person is not necessarily quiet to the ears of another person.

It is hard to say what is the "best", but the Scythe 120mm PWM fan (http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=64339&start=30) works very well with Asus Fan Xpert2 allowing a start up speed south of 400 rpm (3...

Nice work. It really opened my eyes regarding the Noise Blocker fans which I was curious about. I look forward to the next fan roundup which I hope will involve 120mm and up PWM fans (Scythe, Noise Blockers, Be Quiet!, etc.) with Fan Xpert2.

Re: Super silent graphic cards!

What rpm are the fans at idle? I have to go by memory right now: IIRC AfterBurner read around 1000rpm. Well then we have different thresholds. My Sapphire 7950 is right around there at idle - GPU-Z reports about 1100 rpm at idle and I find it decent but not quiet enough. Different thresholds as to ...

Re: Super silent graphic cards!

The "quietest" card in those tests is 24dba. That is not quiet. I know I'm beating a dead horse at this point, but there is no getting around the fact that outside of a large heatsink with a large, slow moving fan, none of these performance graphics cards will be quiet. For example, my Sapphire 7950...

Thanks for the comprehensive report sssttt. I have some Scythe 120mm PWM fans on the way and it will be interesting to see if they will be quiet with the minimum values permitted in Fan Xpert2. If not, I guess it's back to my trusty old fanmated Nexus 120mm fans.
