I used those felt pads with adhesives that you use for putting under table legs or furniture to avoid scratching the floor. I stuck two of them together and then stuck them to the case. No vibrations from the case to the desk and it was super cheap.

I just silenced by Abit Siluro GeForce4 Ti4200 using the Zalman ZM80C-HP with optional ZM-OP1 Fan. It was alittle difficult to remove the original heatsync, but once that was off, the zalman mounting was fairly strait forward. Right now I'm running the card at 301/601 using the fan at 5v. Almost no...

What I've done is to stack my hdds on the base of my case at the front with my intake fan blowing over them. Instead of placing the bottom hd directly on the foam that I have on the base of the case, I have screwed in cable clips so that the hd will sit 1/2" above the foam so air can flow under the ...

So after all this debate, it still is left undecided and it's left up to what you're comfortable with? But it seems that the general concensus is that 55C is a safe range correct? I ask this because I had just installed a cdrw so I had to re-arrange my setup with 2 hard drives and another cdrom. So ...

exrcoupe, your 7000 fan STOPS when you put the fanmate at lowest?! That is strange. Maybe your fanmate has more (or shifted) range than mine. Yeah, it's a bit disconcerting if it happens to get set to the lowest setting. But I'm very happy with it, even at full load, my CPU temp maxes out at 42C ev...

1. Normal mode is if you leave the fanmate at full speed. Silent mode is if you lower the speed of the fanmate. Either way it's quiet. 2. Ask Zalman. 3. I slowed my 7000ACU fan down to 1850rpm (not sure what voltage that is) and my overclocked XP1800 is running at 1903Mhz (173x11) and is at 42C at f...

Digging this up....

I finally quieted my Ti4200 by removing the stock fan and hanging an L1A undervolted to 5V over the stock heatsink. So much better now.

I'll try to take some pics of my setup.

Would this work as well? Using a Zalman Northbridge cooler heatsink? It comes with the clips that may fit the mounting holes for the stock heatsink and fan?

I'm in the same situation.. right now my siluro is the loudest thing in my machine with this high pitched whine. Driving me nuts. I had some experience with this card. If I remember correctly, it was Abit Siluro GF4 TI4200. It had a tiny heatsink with a tiny fan that was excruciatingly loud. I replaced it with Zalman ZM80A-HP passive heatsink. No fans are used to blow onto this heatsink. This card now has worked through the h...

I decided I didn't want to spend any more money on mounting options for my case fans so I got a bunch of foam earplugs and used those instead. They work great and it's made my case vibrate so much less than before.

Do those isolators work? What are they made of? I think the fans in my rig are making the case hum as well so I'm reasearching ways of decoupling them.
The velcro idea sounds good as I have some velcro sqaures, but do they provide enough cushioning to make a difference?

Well, after running my machine on idle for a while and putting it under load, the temps are clearly lower. On idle the cpu hovers around 35-36C and under load, it maxed out at 49C. Maybe it is because I put the computer upright, but I didn't think it would've made that much of a difference.

The ambient temps were the same. I'm not sure if this makes a difference though. I had the machine sitting sideways before I put in the padding and after I put it upright.

Thanks for the reply. I got a piece of underpadding from a local carpet place and cut out of a piece of it the size of the side panel and taped it on. I booted up my machine and let it sit idle for about half an hour. I was very surprised to see that the idle temps were about 10C lower than what it ...

Well, the cpu cooler is *generally* louder than the PSU, but the order can vary by individual systems. They are typically the first and second largest noise producers in a system. I replaced the terrible fan in the PSU already with a Vantec 80mm stealth fan and it made a big difference already. On ...

a good cooler would make a huge difference; the stock amd cooler with a thin 60mm fan is horrible in both noise and performance. A lot of cheap 80mm heatsinks with a low speed fan would perform quite well without too high cost. So even getting a cheap HS and and a quiet 80mm fan would do the trick?...
