Re: Fanless Seasonic = Would this work in bottom mount PSU c

Thanks for all your feedback. I just finished the purchase today. There is a reasonable deal on at Newegg. I am gambling that a positively pressurized case will be okay with the fanless PSU. Here's my current setup: 2 Nexus silent case fan 120mm - Intakes (front) 1 Cooler Master Hyper 212+ 120mm CPU...

Fanless Seasonic = Would this work in bottom mount PSU case?

I am considering purchase of a silent PSU and the Seasonic SS-400FL is at the top of the list. I have a Fractal Define R2 case that has a bottom mounted PSU. I have heard that the Seasonic Fanless need to be mounted in a particular orientation. Would the SS-400FL be a good choice for that case? Are ...

Is anyone besides Newegg going to carry the X-400 and X-460? Their shipping prices and tax (CA) just kill it for me. I'm not sure where you are located but NCIX has the 400 and 460 listed. They show stock in the main Richmond warehouse. Newegg often does deals where they pay the shipping so that mi...

Still waiting for local supplier NCIX to get the 400s and 460s in stock. Even with the promo I think I'm better off waiting until the locals have them. Save the shipping and if they are available in more places it should help drive down the prices.

The next step should be for the mobo manufacturers to get onboard with 80Plus. Since more and more of the power is getting converted on the motherboard they should have a certification for them.

I am looking to pick up a power meter. Are there any killer features that would be mice to have that are not available on the average 30$ units ?

I'd like to see a review of the passive 460 as well. I am interested in a fanless supply but just don't think the 400 is big enough for my current rig with a 125W CPU 1055T combined with VaporX HD5770 108W Video card add to that the mobo and a dual tuner TV card. Currently I'm on a M12 II 550 Bronze...

Am I the only one that thinks this is a giant step backwards ? I just can't make sense of needing a 600W PSU in a Mini ITX case. I don't think there is enough slots for SLI or Xfire so why bother with the killer PSU ? If you dump lots of money on a video setup would you waste your investment on an I...

If it were Seasonic's name on the 80+ Platinum PSU it would not be a "small incremental increase" over 80+Gold, we'd all be singing the praises of the spanking new Seasonic with the "difficult to attain 80 Plus Platinum" rating. The 80+ database is flooded with Gold ratings. The platinum rated PSUs ...

Help with VRMs - a couple questions

I have a couple questions regarding current motherboards. Are the VRMs linear or switching regulators ? What supply voltage does the VRMs use to derive the 1.5V ? Why no 1.5V output on ATX supplies ? I understand if we use higher voltage we can use less current and therefore smaller gauge wiring but...

The Logitech Illuminated keyboard is very quiet. I've seen all kinds of smooth aluminum surfaced ones as well. Think back to the 80486 heatsinks. I've heard the term "bifurcated" used to describe fins and was wondering if it may involve a process like using a cheese slicer that slices fins into two or more smaller fins leaving a chaffed surface.

Q: Heat pipes need gravity - do they work better vertically

The way I understand heat pipes is that they perform a phase change causing a liquid to evaporate. As the gas comes into contact with a cooler metal part it looses energy and condenses. Gravity carries the liquid back to the heating element and the cycle continues. So if gravity is needed how can a ...

What process is used to create the rough surfaces on the heat sink fins ? I have a copper Thermalright HSF in my pc and it has smooth fins but I also have a few Intel and AMD aluminum heatsinks with the rough surfaced fins. This might be hard to visualize but if you removed one fin, the surfaces are...

Don't worry about cardboard (or paper) igniting in a computer. The hottest part of a PC is less than half the flash-point temperature of paper (451F). However, cardboard will degrade significantly (and eventually crumble) even at 100F, so plastic is a better long-term choice for baffles and ducts. ...

Adding a 2k ohm resistor will dim the LED substantially. Buy a 5pack of 2k 1/8 watt resistors. Cut one lead to the led and wire in the resistor. Add more in series if it is still too bright.
