The placement of the EATX12V connector on the P5Q is terrible. With a xigmatek HSF in a Solo you are faced with either a tight squeeze between the ASUS heatsink, the xigmatek and the case rail or must go over the rail back down, which puts the cable in the airflow between the HSF and the rear and PS...

My older S12-330 has one. But this SPCR quote from the S12-330 review (sleeved version) should shed some light on the question. One final change is that the Fan RPM monitor cable has been removed. It is no longer possible to monitor the speed of the internal fan. Most likely, it was dropped because...

SeaSonic psu fan rpm monitor?
I chose SeaSonic S12 II SS-430GB for my recent build, but could not find a connection for rotation monitoring. Is this typical for psu's with fan management now?

What is this connector on ASUS 9600GT?
After connecting the PCI-E power connector to my 9600GT I looked around in the box and found an envelope with a strange little cable with header and fan connectors on each end. There is nothing in the "instructions" about this. I see a two pin header on the board, but it is unmarked. The fan runs wi...

@ canthearyou I'm also considering the P5Q or the P5QL-E for my next PC. The only thing that's REALLY bothering me is the placement of the ATX power connector just above the PCIe 16x slot (instead of on the right side). Doesn't this cause problems for the airflow? Is cable management more difficult...

Thanks everyone. I will leave things as they are for the time being. I can use the allen wrench to tighten it down if needed. The bolts are tight, but the heatsink can still wiggle a bit (rotate viewed from top...not side to side). I booted the system to the bios and it showed E8400 @ 3Ghz with the ...

How much do you tighten a bolt through?
I am mounting the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 using their bolt through mount. The instructions are clear, but leave out how much to tighten the screws down (on an Intel E8400). Does anyone have a hint?

It could be weeks before the company responds. I have a stock Intel cooler and this one. If the fluid leaked, the worse thing is the heatsink may not be efficient at heat removal and have to be replaced after I install it. I've never removed heatsink compound so that creates some anxiety. It could j...

Installing Accelero - thermal compoud issues
I was wondering if the Accelero requires thermal compound. I may put one on my ASUS 9600GT. Also, if there is compound on the existing cooler, is it a challenge to remove the residue?
I haven't done this before.

My xigmatek had a bit of clear fluid on the top vane and while it wiped off easily, I'm a little worried a pipe might have leaked. If I go ahead and build this weekend before I've heard back from xigmatek and it does have a leak, I'd have to remove and replace. I was generally interested in the adva...

I googled heat pipe leaks and found "Some are concerned about the possibility of the fluid leaking from the heat pipe into the electronics. The amount of fluid in a heat pipe of this diameter is less than 1cc. In a properly designed heat pipe, the water is totally contained within the capillary wick...

Bolt through, why is it better?
Okay, the nickel plated bolt through kit for xigmatek looks nice and the stock 775 clips look a bit tricky, but why is it better than using the clips? The clip contraption looks flaky and the manual says you must lock two at a time, so is the bolt through easier to install? It looks like it would be...

I just did. Their site has a weird contact form. No support email listed. Yeah, it is just a little green where the stuff got on the foam. Like it turned it. If you look at the picture, the middle pipe on the right has a tiny hole next to it. The notch is outside in the vane, not on the pipe. It loo...

Xigmatek HDT-S1283 Faulty?
I just finished mounting the bolt through assembly to the heatsink when I noticed something on the top fin. Next to the the middle heat pipe (blunt end) toward the middle of the fin top surface, there was a smear of what looked like lumpy vaseline. Across the other side another pipe (blunt end) had ...

Question about installing intel cpu
I have a E8400 retail box cpu (could not seem to get an oem from newegg) and a PQ5 and xigmatek s1283. I also have the xigmatek bolt-through plate. The socket for the intel chip is quite different from the one for the AMD Sempron of three years ago (the last time I installed a cpu/heatsink). The man...

I've had my case on the floor and on the desk over the years. I estimate that it collects two to three times as much dust from the floor as on the desk. I now place my case on top of an old InWin A-500 pc case. We have wood floors, not a rug. In winter, there is a lot of air movement across the floo...

I will soon find out how awkward the power connector is on the P5Q, which sits between the CPU and the PCI-E. I was not confident in Gigabtye after the length of time they took to resolve the latency issue, which still appears unresolved for P35 boards and worried they might give the P45 the same le...

It's been a long time since I built a system. The machine in my sig has kept pace for about five years. It is getting a bit slow for some tasks, like photo editing. So I am building a new rig. I read some of the forums yesterday and I feel the DPC latency issues are not clearly resolved for the P35 boards and there is not really much evidence the P45 do not do the same. On the other hand, I did find a few users with latency issues on the ASUS P45 boards...oddly enough. I will buy a P5Q pa...

I decided to get an ASUS P5Q after a lot of study. The choice was narrowed to...
