Re: Silent micro-switches for Logitech and other mice.

Great thread with useful info. I'm surprised that there aren't more silent 'high end' mice. I have a Uping mouse (basically a Eastern Times generic mouse from China) which has silent main buttons, presumably due to using the same/similar microswitches: http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B00SJI2...

HP DV5T (9600GT) + Zalman NC-1000 = Great combination!

I've got a DV5T with Core2Duo P8400 (2.26ghz) and Geforce 9600GT, which is a fairly powerful combination for a laptop and I've even managed to get the laptop to run without its fan! In the factory default state, the BIOS has the setting, 'Fan Always On'. Disabling this option results in the fan turn...

Use some Lian-Li wheels. They're "lower" than traditional castors and although they don't move 360 degrees, they allow the case to be moved around the floor very easily. The rubber 'tyres' are also useful if using them on hard floors. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/images/large/products/WB-0...

Well, my 7900GT is on its deathbed like so many of the 79XX cards. Seems like the overclocks pushed the card a bit too far after all this time and this chip doesn't seem to be as robust as the previous Nvidia GPUs in terms of tolerances to overlocking. Getting major artefacting in 3D games, odd spot...

Dell Inspiron 2200 (1.3ghz CelM, Intel GMA900 768ram, 40gb) Absolutely silent. Top of the laptop and palmrest never gets even warm, though the underside of the laptop does. Good write up Ragnar. I also read a couple of reviews on NotebookReview.com which said the most recent Asus laptops had pretty aggressive fan ramping and it was the only thing that spoiled what otherwise a great laptop.

Quiet typing action but I never like the 'rubber dome' feel to the key action (I have the similar DiNovo).

I still don't reckon the ThinkPad keyboard (you cane get desktop versions as well) can be beaten for feel, speed and typing action though.

I think you'll struggle with a passive card with the power consumption of the 6800GT/7800GT/7900GT and obviously anything higher as they tend to idle at about 60-70C with nominal airflow and under load at about 80-90C. A passive card will definitely work - I've run a 6200 with no airflow before - bu...

Can you set the trackpad to "double tap" whereby 2 taps on the trackpad itself (not the buttons) replicates a double mouse click?

Any solution re: Antec Tricool intermittent clicking noise?

Alas, one of the Tricools in my P180 has caught the dreaded intermittent clicking disease. Happens about 10% - 20% of the time. Increasing or lowering the RPM doesn't solve the problem. Sometimes the clicking disappears of its own accord. Other times, its a case of turning off the desktop and using ...
