I forgot to plug mine in last rebuild, two years ago. Apart from forgetting to blacklist the 'floppy' module in linux, no issues. The next (current) rebuild will have no floppy physically in the box.

1. The Geforce 8000 series doesn't support xvmc according to this thread. Not that it matters a great deal to CPU usage, but I would think you could lessen the heat in the case by going with an older card and get xvmc in the bargain.

My guess would be that the Nexus spins slowly enough that the motherboard is alarming on a low or no RPM reading from it. Some headers don't register very low RPM.
