I installed a Transcend 32GB SSD MLC PATA disk into my 5 year old laptop just a month ago. I've been happy with it and have not seen any stuttering problems. However, I have to say I use the laptop only for email and web browsing. The original 40GB disk of it crashed around 6 months ago, and at that...

The Task Manager picture in the Anandtech article shows two CPU charts, does that mean the reference design uses the dual-core Atom 330?

I'm running my E6600 24/7 at 1.08 volts and 1.6GHz (multiplier 6). It seems to be stable at the same 1.08 volts and 1.86GHz (multiplier 7) as well, but that 1.6GHz is fast enough for me. Of course you might wonder why I got an E6600 instead of an E6300 if I run it at such slow speeds... A good quest...

I live in a similar rural area as Adrian (wiser), though in Finland. For me, the definition of the "effectively silent" computer is a computer that I can not hear if it is on or off unless I hold my breath. Don't know what that would be in decibels, but I believe this might give you an idea of the n...

By the way, sorry I haven't mentioned this earlier but I only just remembered it: The SATA RAID connectors of the AOpen i915GM board are situated so that it is close to impossible to use them if you use the Silverstone passive PSU. The normal Borg HPC fits Intel P4 Socket LGA775, 478 and AMD Athlon64 754/939/940, so it should fit fine if that motherboard uses a standard 478 socket retention mechanism. However, looks like the location of the CPU socket on that motherboard is such that you will probably need to bend the heatpipe...

Hi, and thanks for showing your two mCubed systems. Hi, and no problem, thanks for your interest! The mCubed systems has been on my wish list for a long time, mainly because of the ability to passively cool both a CPU and a GPU. I read up a bit on the Pentium M processors and was really surprised w...

Given this, I am trying to put together a Passive Cooling solution with 5V case fans that will do the trick. Passive cooling solution with fans? :) If you are going for "ultimate silence" you might want to look into truly passive cases with no fans. I have built two such systems, the components are...

mCubed HFX case & Athlon X2 3800+, ideas needed

Hello! I'm trying to build a fast and silent system (aren't we all?) using Athlon X2 3800+ processor and mCubed HFX HTPC case. This system is actually not going to be a HTPC, I have another machine (Pentium M 760 in mCubed HFX case) that works perfectly as such. This machine is to be my main desktop...

My first silent PC case (LapPower Silent System) back in mid-90's or so had a similar case fan. The case had a very weird design, it blew air from top of the case downwards towards the processor using such a turbine fan.
