Re: Multiple displays problem

Have you looked in to BIOS/UEFI options, see if there is anything about external screen settings?
I mention it as I noticed a setting on some older Toshiba laptops I was working on but didn't pay it any attention at the time to see what options were / did.

Re: Quiet card for 4k/5k desktop use?

Hi, depending on the connections on your monitor(s) an RX 460 might suit you. They have DP1.4 and HDMI 2.0 both capable of 4K output (and dual link DVI) and start from ~£80, which might drop once RX 550/ RX 560 become widely available. It will have less outright 3D performance than the 7970 but if y...

Re: Zip Ties Or Twist ties?

How often do you plan to mess with the insides of your PC?
If it's rarely or never then yes zip ties.
If you're often going to be tinkering inside you might prefer twist ties or Velcro straps so you can undo them easily without having to cut and replace zip ties all the time.

Re: need to replace power supply on legacy silent pc

Hi, I wouldn't replace the PSU, just the fan in it. I put an Arctic F12 in a Seasonic S12 380w PSU and it works great, very quiet at idle. Although I haven't stressed it to know how much it can take. Go with good 1200-1500 rpm fan, I like Arctic ones as they are good and very cheap on ebay (£3-4 eac...

Re: Improve X4 845 stock cooler and make it silent

Hi, personally I would not buy an expensive cooler for this PC. I would look for 92mm fan tower heatsinks, these will be ample to cool your CPU, which I think is 65w TDP. My experience is Arctic Cooling fans can be slowed to nicely quiet levels, certainly below 3x HDDs. Try looking for Freezer 7 Pro...

Re: Force a PWM CPU fan to run at full speed?

Hi, as you have an older rig I presume you have molex plugs on your PSU. In which case you can remove the fan wires from the plug and, with a bit of fix-able squashing, you can shove the -ve (pin 1) in to a black wire and +ve (pin 2) in to yellow 12v wire. This is 100% definitely giving fan 12v, byp...

Re: Force a PWM CPU fan to run at full speed?

Hi, if you simply remove the 4th, PWM control wire from the fan plug the fan will run at full speed. It's usually green or blue coloured, with the aid of a pin or thin blade you can press the tab in the back of the plug that holds the wire in and just pull it out. If you manage this you then easily ...

You could try looking for a local metal work or machining shop.
Hope to find someone there to take an interest in your project and they should easily have skills and tools to do a good cutting job.

Hi, I think the H440 you have is rather restrictive in terms of air flow and this is going to be (very) bad news for you power hungry R9 390X. You can test this by running with the side panel off and should be able to reduce the fan speeds with out excessive temps I believe your Tri-x version should...

Re: Quietest Case. Ever.

Sorry but there really isn't a single answer to this, it's just not that simple. For example a closed up muffled case might be great for a low power system keeping any noise in but for a high power system there could be too much heat so all the fans have to spin at high speed to get any cooling and ...

Re: Reduced size E-ATX mid-tower

I'm suggesting you need (at least) 35cfm of air flow in, through and out of the case to cool 400w with the air being raised (on average) 20°C in the process. This is independent of what happens in the case to get the heat in to the air. If you have poor heatsinks you will need much more air flow thr...

Re: Reduced size E-ATX mid-tower

Hi Luca, I'm not sure what you are asking here? I was assuming the case intakes air entirely through the front panel so the number/location of fans inside to achieve this wasn't being considered. I have just been reading SPCR's review of the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX, and it's not great. They raise ...

Re: Reduced size E-ATX mid-tower

Hi, I've looked again at reviews of the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX and they are generally positive about the case and it's cooling abilities, so I may be wrong about it's airflow. I guesstimated the areas of the intake slits at 300x12mm sides and 230x15mm bottom and this adds up to area equal to 120m...

Hi, yes at idle the PC will be using a lot of power relative to more modern and modest machines but the 100w or so is perfectly feasible to cool very quietly. Like sleep in the same room quiet, and I can easily believe it is with aftermarket CPU and GPU coolers. The problem comes when under load and...

Hi, your fan speeds don't look too bad to me, there is always room for improvement though. I would not bother with any kind of damping foam, it's much better to not make the noise in first place than try to damp it. To be effective I think it needs to be thick and heavy. I would start with the CPU c...

what about sliding the psu forward towards middle of case, so it isnt also sucking up CPU heat? a duct/deflector plate above CPU (where bottom of PSU would normally go) would be needed. if you got crazy inventive with ducting you might be able to use front 5.25 bays as a totally separate PSU intake...
