I bought the Corsair VX450W in 2007. It made the birdy noises. After some discussion about RMA and sending it back to Corsair in the Corsair support forums, I just took it out and bought a Seasonic 380W power supply.

Can someone please comment on the suggestion that a buzzing power supply is an indication that you've chosen a power supply that far exceeds your power requirements? For example, you've chosen a 500W power supply when all you really needed for your system was a 300W power supply, and that situation ...

What Aris said is fair enough. I just want to add that I contacted Corsair support and they were extremely helpful and they let me RMA the unit. I haven't sent it back yet, but, you know, I don't want to bad-mouth Corsair in this thread. If you get a buzzer, they'll take it back. I guess that's the ...

Arrrrhhh my Corsair vx450w is buzzing and it's driving me crazy )= )= )=

I'm going to read the rest of this thread to see what I can do about it. I suppose I'll either try to return it, or buy another PSU.

On mainboards: I recently ordered the Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R instead of the Asus P5K because everyone was complaining that the Asus boards run hotter. More heat means more cooling means more noise. Gigabyte has a lot of boards and I separate them into 3 categories: those that run DDR2 memory, those t...

Shmanky's System (P182/GA-P35C-DS3R/E6850/NinjaB/HD501LJ)

The last time I built a machine was in the year 2000. So I guess it lasted me 7 years. But, I've replaced everything except the mainboard and CPU. With that in mind, I want to build a machine that will last 3-5 years assuming that the mainboard and CPU will be permanent choices. I do programming (Ja...

Bories36, can you talk a little bit about your Scythe Ninja rev b concerns. Did you have a problem with the push pins? Or a close fit next to ram modules, etc. Thanks.

Would you use this heat sink again, or would you get another, like the Thermalright Ultra 120 (Extreme).

Why does Gigabyte have 27 boards based on the P35 chipset??

I was hoping to get the Asus P5K Deluxe, which would have made things simple, but everyone seems to complain that the P5K runs hotter than Gigabyte's offering, so fine, I'll get the Gigabyte. But when I go to the Gigabyte Web site, I see that they have no fewer than 27 motherboards based on the P35 ...

So the consensus is that the Asus runs hotter than the Gigabyte, so those wanting to build a quieter machine should eschew the Asus in favor of the Gigabyte, hmm?

Can someone please post some links to references, thanks.

Want to buy the Antec MX-1, but it's not a NAS

Sorry if this doesn't appear silence-related, but it is, because I need to buy a networked and silent hard disk enclosure. So I want to set up a NAS (network-attached storage). And I want to stick that nice Samsung 500GB in there. But I need to enclose the Samsung in a quiet and cool enclosure, like...

The hard disk in the MacBook Pro is rated at 2.4 bels idle

According to [ http://www.macintouch.com/reviews/macbookproled/systemprofile.html ], the 2.5 inch hard disk drive in the MacBook Pro released June 05, 2007, is the Fujitsu MHW2120BH. My concern about this drive is that according to the device's PDF specifications , linked from Fujitsu's Web site , t...

It's a good thing that only need 80GB, but for those like me that want at least 500GB, our only option are 3.5 inchers.

Schmanky: Put simply, framerate and drive performance aren't necessarily one and the same. Sorry, I did not mean to suggest that Direct 3D rendering was related to hard disk performance. I find that Windows ME always outperforms Windows XP.. on virtually all fronts, whether that be disk access or Direct 3D rendering. So I expect you would get lower results on an NT based machine.
