Interesting. I personally would not want my hdd to hit the 50c mark. At least not on a consistent basis. I'll tweak some fan speeds or do something creative to reduce the heat. But that's just my preference - others may disagree.

I also suggest Samsung. I bought the Samsung 52X SW-252fen model from Newegg. Pretty quiet compared to my previous drives. They probably aren't the quietest drives around but I believe they have an excellent cost to noise ratio - $35 shipped is hard to beat.

Don't know much about the Acoustifans but the Sunbeam has been one of my best purchases recently. What a pleasure it is not to have to open up my case every time (which was often) I want to tweak my fan settings. No heat issues or problems with it and it seems well constructed. Yes, if the stock fan is too loud. But keep an eye on your HDD temps. When I removed my front case fan, my HDD temps went up 10C. So I put it right back in.
