......or should I go for a scythe ninja and use my nexus 120mm fan?
My only concerns are whether the scythe will fit my motherboard and the fan clips look a little flimsy. I'd be worried that the fan could fall off.
thanks for any help.

I've just had a look at my motherboard (K8v) and I've found a problem  Due to the orientation of the mounting plate (and holes) the heatsink would be in a north/south direction (as opposed to the usual east/west) so the fan would either be blowing onto the graphics card or psu. Is this going t...

Thermalright Ultra-120
Hi all,
I'm planning on getting an Antec SLK3000b case and a Thermalright Ultra-120 heatsink to cool my 64bit XP 3200 cpu.
Will the heatsink fit the motherboard (Asus K8V)ok and will it fit in the case?
Thanks
Jon

Case: Antec 3700 BQE Drive: Diamondmax plus 9 160gb sata The high hdd temps (usually around 44-48c) andlow frequency 'hum' caused by the side panels being vibrated by the drive was starting to annoy me. So today I drilled out the rivets holding the cage in and removed it. Only problem...I forgot I d...

BQE & Sonata - removing hard drive cage
I've got a BQE which at the moment is pretty much unmodded. Case ventilation only consists of the 120mm fan in my psu (nexus 3500) and a 120mm nexus low flow fan at the rear. I have a maxtor diamondmax plus 9 (sata) and due to the recent rise in temp here (summer time started a couple of weeks ago i...

I modded my Nexus 3500 psu recently. Mods: Snipped the 6 pin aux cables off inside the psu Snipped 1 of the molex harnesses off ( the 1 with 2 4 pin connectors) inside the psu. Snipped 1 of the floppy connectors off. Serial ATA connectors (originally 2 - a 90 degree pass through and a straight end c...

Radeonman...you're spot on! http://www.swiftnets.com/products/MCX6400-V.asp That would negate the need to remove the backing plate ( a potientially nightmare of a job) Gonna look up some reviews..compatible with 80mm & 92mm fans aswell....woohooo. Reckon the 'stick type' fan isolators could be used ...

I got an Asus k8v deluxe motherboard a while ago. When I got it the retention bracket (similar to P4 type) was fitted to the board...no worries I thought, just unscrew the bracket and the backing plate will come off...wrong!!! The backing plate is held on by double sided and beeds to be removed to a...

Cheers for the replies :) Ralph: The case has been through a number of different setups. The original being the first (messy wiring) pic with the stock antec case fan and a 92mm panaflo (5v) underneath the hdd. Temps were usually around 33c for the case and 43c for the cpu at idle. Tidier Case
Whilst fitting a new PSU to my case I decided to tidy the mess of wires and braid the psu cables. How it originally was http://www.ihateaol.co.uk/misc/pics/04.03.04-13:22:09case1.jpg and the end result, still not really tidy but a good improvement. Have since added a 120mm nexus exhaust fan. http://...

Nexus or Acoustifan?? What do you think?
I've just ordered a 120mm nexus fan for the back of my BQE case. I'm not sure what to order for the front..either: another 120mm nexus or a 92mm nexus or a 92mm acoustifan I normally would buy panaflo (currently using an 80L on my heatsink and its class) but the last 92mm L1-BX I had ticked at any v...

I'm unsure what size of isolation mounts I need. I can't measure the case & fan hole diameters as I'm not at home at the moment and the fans havent arrived yet. My case is a BQE and the fans are panaflo 120mm L at rear and panaflo 92mm L at front. Could someone tell me which isolators I need for bot...

rpm monitoring: would this work?
I'm going to use 2 120mm low volume papsts connected to a sunbeam rheobus, both are 3 wire/3pin. Would I be able to monitor rpms if I removed the rpm lead from the connector and plugged it into the motherboard headers and attach the red/black leads to the rheobus?

A sumbeam rheobus should be arriving at my door tommorow which I plan to fit in a BQE. Does it require some sort of bracing to stop the drive rails bending the sides ( as with the zalman) or is it strong enough on its own?

I guess, from you mentioning directron, you live in the US? I'm not well up on US vendors (being from the UK) but the only place I have seen that sells the 3pin (including rpm sensor wire) 120mm FGL is this one based in the UK.

1. Yeah, I've made 4pin to 3pin adaptor cables in the past. Very easy to do as all the pins can be just crimped onto the wire if you're not that confident soldering. Nowadays I just cut the connector off and fit a 3pin connector as I've become a cable tidy freak  2.The motherboard will supply s...

I soon plan on making an order from performance pcs in the US. This order is primarily a molex minifit extractor (cant get em in the UK) so I can finish the braiding work on my psu. I used a pre cut kiy for my last psu..this is a lot cheaper as I'll have plenty left over to do future psu's. Bought the 3mm-10mm for fan wires, 6mm-18mm for the molex cables and 10mm-25mm for the 20pin atx. Already got heatshrink and the extraction tool. But I'll have to order a molex minifit extra...

Um, you won't be using the 3.3V line? Think again. The CPU takes some of it's power from the 3.3V line as does the motherboard and sometime the video card (as well as any other onboard peripherals). Sorry. I phrased my initial post badly, I meant the 3.3v aux power connector ( 6 pin normally used f...

Does making a psu modular do it any harm?
This may be a daft question but my knowledge of the internal workings of a psu could be written on the back of a postage stamp. I'm going to order a nexus 3500 power supply and having just seen a picture of it, the mass of wires is,ermmm..massive. I plan to do some cable braiding, and completely rem...
