As opposed to replacing "just" the motherboard, CPU, graphics card and RAM in a desktop? edit: okay, being forced to upgrade the LCD -- now there's a drawback. Didn't think of it at first. Also the stuff you mentioned is about $600 for descent stuff. Thats still less than $1500. Plus I hate having ...

Re: Effective hard drive cooling solutions

What are some recommendations for effective hard drive cooling solutions? Specifically, for a Barracuda IV or a WD 200GB Special Edition? I'd prefer a passive heatsink, as I would probably remove any fan from an active solution. According to the article, it is more important for the heatsink to mak...

Actually I don't think you need a 1250. I have everything (cpu, vga, hdd, nb) watercooled, except the psu, and I use a 1046, which has half the capacity of the 1048, but I have 8mm hoses and a very, very large radiator. I estimate a 1048 is more than enough. More flow doesn't equal better cooling, a...

The idea is brilliant. Somebody suggested you could do something similar with a Zalman, but this is more sophisticated, because it uses heatpipes. I have just one thing against this psu: It's weak. t says 350 W, but if you look at the numbers for 3.3, 5 and 12 volt, they are quite low. Engelkings fa...

Like the title says: Do hdd's have to share 'bandwith' with other devices on the pci bus. I'm asking this because of my reluctance to put a serial ata pci card in my computer, because if normal IDE channels don't share bandwith with the pci bus, I'm going to half the memory bandwith of my computer. ...

Re: Cuda V's work in RAID 0 now?

Over the summer I bought a pair of Cuda IV's to go with my Abit BD7II RAID mobo. Once it all arrived I learned that in RAID 0 (two drives striped for performance -- correct me if I'm wrong) those two drives would be slower than if I had run them straight up. Seagate confirmed this. Said there was a...

As a perfectionist and owner of a watercooled pc, I feel a need to get rid of the last fan in my system. Not because it's noisy, but because I can. Aquacomputer (http://217.172.178.216/) sells watercooled psu's in Germany for 300 Euro (hence the word "silly" in the topic), and I feel the urge to buy...

I don't think the motherboard is specifically quietpc unfriendly, but I reckon that 2 cpu's generate a lot of heat, and somewhere somehow this heat must get out of the case. Very often the psu exhaust is the only route out, so the air that comes out will be warm at least. Also, 2 cpus will need a lo...
