Blowing any fan at a solid surface at so close a distance as you show, is a questionable use of airflow. The created back-pressure slows down airflow, at the same time increases noise levels. I'd much prefer to see the fan blowing/sucking through the opening between the drives. Of course how you mo...

dtemp reports 37 and 34 degrees, by the way. I have no idea which is which, but I guess that the lower HD is hotter, since the fan is blowing on the top one. Mission accomplished, I think :) Maybe I'll post some pics if I get a hold on a digital camera, if anyone is interested.

Yeah, sorry about the sub-par image :D The strange lookin thing between the blocks is indeed the fan, and those white blocks are hard drives, the upper one is flipped around. The red area is making a pitiful attempt at indicating the airflow path. I only have one 120mm case fan at the back, and I wa...

My slightly unorthodox HDD fan setup.. any problems?

Hi! I just rigged my two S-ATA Seagates like this: http://koti.mbnet.fi/kurittu/kovo.jpg (I changed the crappy GIF with a proper pic) The grey block represent the HD mount clips on the Sonata, the white rectangles with black outlines are the HD:s, the thing I did was that I flipped the sonata clip 1...

Why not cut a 120 mm hole to the bottom of the case, under the HDD:s, or
somewhere in the front? You could get a filter for it too to prevent dust.

Maybe the zalman bent my mobo enough to short circuit it or something..

Decoupling the PSU fan

Has anyone done this? I just tore open my Sonata stock PSU and replaced the screws with the four extra silicone grommets provided with the case. Three of them were easy to pull in place with a pair of pliers, naturally I had to pull them inwards, because the case encloses the screws (grommets, in th...

How about 2d performance? My main computer has a Matrox G550 with excellent 2d. How does the Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro Ultimate compare to something like that in 2d. Anyone tried using the Sapphire in a dual monitor setup (since the card comes with a DVI connector and VGA adaptor in addition to the ...

I also think that you got a software problem. In your shoes I would start by updating to latest DirectX drivers. Next step is to upgrade to latest BIOS version for your board. Have you tried with different programs for viewing the Movie? Both are current and up-to-date, that's the first solution I ...

I had a similar problem several years ago. After nearly pulling my hair out tyring to figure out if a particular component was bad, I had the motherboard checked out at a shop- Turns out my cache (older mobo- was off CPU) was bad. Switched mobo's and all is fine. Other things you could do- -ensure ...

Hard locks when moving winamp video window

I'm experiencing a strange phenomenon; a hard lock occurs once in a while when I move windows with video content playing on them. The symptoms are not unlike those of a cpu overheating; the Audio card's buffer starts to "oscillate" (A whirring sound playing, presumably the buffer looping). I have a ...

Vacuum paneling to stop noise?

I had this idea.. Since we all know that noise is vibrations in a conducting matter and the basic idea behind every dampening material there is is to either reflect this noise or convert it to some other form of energy (heat for example, using friction). Would it be possible to effectively combat no...

I'm pretty sure HD temp info should be supported on the RAID Chip itself, because of the
2=1 nature of the RAID 0 setup. The system only sees one hard drive, so the chip would
be required to show one temp, too.

I'd say that P4 is a much more proven platform and performance of P4 and A64 (3.2Ghz and 3200+) is similar. 64-bit OS isn't out yet so there isn't any benefit in 64-bits yet I think. I think A64 3000+ will outperform P4 2.6 stock. Additionally if you have GF3 Ti200 my guess is you won't see the ben...

The heatsink doesn't hang form the CPU, it hangs from the motherboard. The only effect a heatsink failure could have on a CPU is overheating. But since any modern Socket A motherboard (including the Asus A7V8X ) has overheat protection, that's a non-issue. I know, I installed one a week ago, but I ...

I think using a too big a heatsink effectively ends your warranty right
there. Or does switching the heatsink do that already? I'm not sure about
the technicalities, but I'm sure that if you suspend 770 grams from your
CPU and it breaks, you won't get a new one from the shop..

The fan that came with my 3700 AMB is actually quite usable. It stalls at 2.3V which is the lowest figure I've seen and is reasonably quiet at 5v. So undervolting the original fan with a Fan Mate is certainly an option. Yeah, but the sonata is already undervolted, though I'm not sure how much. And ...

What do you think, is it worth the cost to switch the 120 mm case fan from the Sonata case to a different model with a Fan Mate to undervolt it more silent? At the time the case fan is making the most noise on my setup, alongside with the PSU fan, which is just slightly less noisy. Do you people usu...

It's not that low. The P4C800 (and the P4P800, not that it matters to you!) reports the CPU temps about 6-8°C too low. Whatever you're reading in MBM isn't the correct sensor either. Go here to make sure you're using the correct sensors in MBM. Also, don't run Asus Probe and MBM5 at the same time. ...
