Re: Got an SSD for performance and silence, but what about T

Am I supposed to use a stopwatch or will the file generate the info you are looking for? If a stopwatch, how will I know when it is done? I use the Win7 side exclusively, so anything that can run on Win7 should run on my Mac mini.

Re: Got an SSD for performance and silence, but what about T

My Mac mini has USB 2.0, FireWire 800 and an SD card slot. I don't think I have an external drive with Firewire, though. My external drive is USB 2.0, and wouldn't you know it, when it was in transit I learned of a USB 3.0 option for the drive! It was too hard to get an upgrade of Win 7 running on t...

Re: Got an SSD for performance and silence, but what about T

Pierre, I have not been back to the site much lately, but I have read most of this thread. I have a Sandforce SSD, and if you can recommend a test that you would like me to run that would not unnecessarily wear my drive, I'd be happy to do it. I cannot agree with the posts to use the drive as little...

Re: What is your first step when silencing 7200RPM HDDs?

HDDs these days are quieter than a few years ago, because they are using a different type of bearing. You may be dealing with a noisy drive that you may not be able to get a good result with.

Re: Quiet quality external HDD case

I have an "OWC Express" that looks great, is very small, and stays quiet and cool. When I was looking for enclosures, thinking I would buy a Scorpio, I could not find anything as small as the OWC Express, and ended up finding a nice Samsung S2 1TB model that came with an enclosure smaller than even ...

Re: enclosures?

When I picked up my SSD from OWC (Other World Computing aka macsales) I got it bundled with a clean and tiny 2.5" drive enclosure that matches the aluminum Mac mini. They just added USB 3.0 support to the model I picked up. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/USB2/OWC_Express They also have a nice, clear...

I just picked up a Samsung S2 series, model HX-MU010EA external HDD to complement the SSD in my Mac mini. http://www.samsung.com/global/business/hdd/productSubType.do?group=72&type=93&subtype=96# Right now I am using it to back up my Mac mini. Holy Grail

My mid-2010 Mac mini is inaudible from 2-feet. This is what I have been looking since the first time I tracked down SPCR. I am using the Snow Leopard OS' built-in "boot camp" to boot into Windows 7 (64-bit) on an NTFS partition on my 120GB SSD drive with 8GB RAM. Speed and quiet.

Yes it helps. It puts the Scorpio back in the running. I may wait a month and see if the 100/120GB models reach the US. I'll probably start to order components in late January.

I want to get an AOpen MP915 Mini PC (aka Pandora, barebones, looks like the Mac Mini). There is no room for any suspension or enclosure in this little box. Even foam cushioning may be out of the question. There may not be room for any breather holes either (someone mentioned were on top of one of t...

The AOpen XC Cube MZ855-II is the PC's best answer to the Mac Mini. You might look for a monitor at the store that has its transformer outside the monitor, in a "brick" on the power cord (aka "wall wart"). That way, the monitor won't need a fan inside it to cool off the transformer.

Has anyone tried a RADEON 9600 card with the Dell 2005FPW monitor @ 1680 x 1050? Some other people have had luck with 9700/9800 after updating their drivers. The 9600 is alot cheaper, fanless and has similar supported-resolution specs as later model RADEONS.

1680 x 1050 is rather a strange resolution... Yes, roo, it's a widescreen monitor, and the full model number is 2005FP W for widescreen. PC Fan Noise Relief There is almost no PC hardware anymore that can get by without a fan. Now, the CPU, the graphics card, the motherboard and the case all require fans. If low-noise fans are not used, the decibel level quickly goes up to over 50 dB(A), which becomes unbearable. However, fan contro...
